The HyperDeck Shuttle HD by Blackmagic Design is a desktop recorder and player, with a large search knob that allows you to find clips quickly. It supports ProRes, DNx, and H.264 files in NTSC, PAL, 720p, and 1080p formats, while HDMI connections provide the opportunity to connect switchers, cameras, and monitors. Use SD or UHS-II cards and external USB-C drives to store and play back recorded material. The design of this device is the same as the ATEM Mini Extreme switcher, so they match perfectly, and it even has a built-in teleprompter.
Professional video recorder with elegant design
This model has been designed for desktop use and can be easily controlled. Its slight tilt allows the hand to rest on the search controller, and the buttons can be accessed with ease. Plus, it pairs perfectly with ATEM Mini Extreme switchers because the design is the same. The natural inertia of the search controller allows you to fast forward or rewind images, and the soft rubber surface is pleasant to the touch. On the other hand, the buttons are the same as those of any traditional recorder. The rear panel includes all the necessary connections, including to power the device and connect it to a network.
Ideal for recording masters and playback clips
Support for H.264, ProRes, and DNx files allows you to record master copies and even select PCM or AAC audio. This is ideal for creating high-quality copies when using ATEM Mini switchers. The device offers everything you need to send programs to Broadcasters and broadcast them through YouTube.
The large rotary knob allows for a visual search. When the desired clip is found, pressing the back button accesses the beginning of the clip, while pressing CLIP stops playback at the end. The device can also be controlled from an ATEM switcher, using the Ethernet network.
Traditional Controls
The Blackmagic HyperDeck Shuttle includes an easy-to-use control panel. The buttons are the same as those of any traditional recorder, and when you press the recording button, the source immediately starts recording to a file, according to the format selected by the menu. In addition, the device includes other buttons to play a clip, rewind to the beginning of the clip, or advance to the next. All controls have been designed by Blackmagic Design with the best quality. The machined metal rotary knob simplifies image search, and can also be controlled remotely via an Ethernet network.
SD and UHS-II card support
The HyperDeck Shuttle allows you to record to SD and UHS-II cards, so there's no need to invest in expensive storage media. The cards are ideal as they offer great speed in a compact design and at an affordable price. You can also connect external USB drives or a MultiDock Blackmagic device for seamless recording to multiple drives. H.264 files are small, so they provide the opportunity to store a large amount of material on cheap cards, for example, up to 157 hours in H.264 format at 1080p59.94 on a 1TB card, i.e. more than six days of high-definition images.
Recording to USB-C external drives
The USB-C port allows you to connect external drives with a larger capacity than other storage media. In addition, the same drive can be used for recording and editing, saving time as there is no need to copy files before post-production begins. Simply connect the disk to a computer and you're good to go. In this regard, the Blackmagic MultiDock 10G offers four SSD bays and is compatible with the HyperDeck Shuttle model. In turn, external drives can be managed from the settings menu.
ProRes, DNx, and H.264 files
The HyperDeck Shuttle HD supports the most common codecs, such as DNx and ProRes, or H.264 when recording in NTSC, PAL, 720p, 1080p, and even 1080i. This allows compression ratios from 60:1 to 285:1 to be achieved for small files with high-quality images. Also, when uploading them to YouTube, it is possible to choose the audio format (PCM or AAC). In addition, the device supports drives formatted using ExFAT and HFS+ systems, allowing you to access your content on Mac and Windows computers. In turn, long-term events can be recorded in a single file.
Wide range of connections
Despite its compact design, the HyperDeck Shuttle features a wide variety of connections. The HDMI input allows you to connect cameras and switchers, while the HDMI output allows you to use monitors for presentations or ATEM Mini units to play content such as commercials, promotions or video clips. In turn, the rear panel has an input for 12V direct current, and the device includes a power supply. The 1G Ethernet connection offers the opportunity to remotely control the recorder and upload files, and the USB-C expansion port makes it easy to connect external drives and update the device, which also supports SD and UHS-II cards.
HDMI connection for ATEM Mini switchers
With HDMI input and output, you can connect ATEM Mini cameras, monitors, TVs, projectors, and even switchers. These connections support a wide variety of formats, both in standard definition (NTSC and PAL) and high definition (720p50, 720p59.94, 1080i50, 1080i59.94, 1080p23.98, 1080p24, 1080p25, 1080p29.97, 1080p30, 1080p50, 1080p59.94, 1080p60 and even 1080PsF).
Integrated Teleprompter
The HyperDeck Shuttle HD model can also be used as a teleprompter. Simply select this option from the recording menu, as the device processes common RTF text files. There is no need for special software, as the script can be written in any simple text editor, e.g. TextEdit. To switch from one script to another, simply press the forward or backward buttons. By pressing the JOG and SCR buttons simultaneously, the text scrolls just like on a conventional teleprompter. This will preserve the size and font of the original file, as well as the color and alignment. When you type hyphens with a 12-point letter, the device will automatically adjust the size based on the connected monitor.
Network File Transfer
The Blackmagic HyperDeck Shuttle allows you to transfer media files via FTP clients. In this regard, the 1G Ethernet connection often offers higher speeds than SD cards. All devices employ a simple text-based protocol, and control commands can be verified using Telnet. All you have to do is type "play" or "record" and the computer will play or record the images, respectively. By combining file transfer and control protocols and connecting a HyperDeck recorder to a set of USB-C disks, you get a great server for ingest, playback, and organizing media assets.
Operating system Blackmagic
The innovative operating system Blackmagic OS has been designed for high-end film and professional products, and allows access to the various functions of the device. It also provides the opportunity to turn it on instantly, record images, measure audio intensity, view timecode and other data, set up networks and manage recording media, as well as being available in multiple languages. The menus are superimposed on the image displayed on the monitor connected to the device and allow you to configure it. The operating system also offers exceptional speed to ensure file transfer via the 1G Ethernet port.
Compatible with all broadcast programs and platforms
The Blackmagic HyperDeck Shuttle HD records files that are compatible with almost all editing software. By using the H.264 format, they can be uploaded directly to streaming platforms, such as YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo or Twitter. It is also possible to use popular applications, for example, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro or Media Composer, since the format of the files is the same as that used in post-production processes, or even create visual effects in Fusion and After Effects. The recorder allows you to use formatted discs on computer equipment, which makes it easy to edit the material stored on them without the need to copy it.
