ColorChecker White Balance Calibrite

The ColorChecker White Balance chart provides you with an accurate reproduction of white. With the change in lighting conditions, the camera changes the way white is reproduced, resulting in color deviations in your photos. Most white balance cards are not neutral and can cause a deviation of colors in different lighting conditions. But the ColorChecker White Balance chart is a white reference, absolutely neutral and scientifically elaborate, which prevents color changes and provides you with a precise and uniform surface that is spectrally neutral, in any lighting condition. This means that you can be sure that the image on your camera is the same as in reality.

The ColorChecker White Balance chart also gives you a way to adjust the color sensitivity of your digital camera to exactly match ambient lighting conditions, effectively changing what the camera "sees." The perceived color of white often changes based on environmental conditions – outdoors it is perceived as cooler, indoors it is perceived as warmer and under fluorescent light it is perceived as greener. Even in a controlled study environment, this can be a problem. Whether in location or in your studio, establishing a precise custom white balance before each photo shoot ensures accurate colors from the start.

Adjusting a custom white balance for each lighting situation will preview the correct color on your camera screen, make your histograms more reliable, and faster color editing in post production. Shooting in Raw you can capture at any time during the session to get these benefits, while if you shoot in JPEG it should be done on the first shot.

Why can't I use any white object?

Performing white balance with a piece of paper or other gray element in the scene may seem like a simple workaround, but many objects are not totally neutral under all lighting conditions; and they are certainly consistent with us. An inappropriate white balance will result in a shade of color and a lack of consistency between lighting conditions.
