Conventional DSLR designs employ a low-pass filter in front of the camera sensor to prevent digital distortion, such as moiré and false colors. These filters soften the image slightly, so on the EOS 5DS R the low-pass effect is cancelled out for the sharpest performance. The slight risk of distortions therefore makes the EOS 5DS R a good choice outdoors or under controlled conditions in a studio, although for other applications the EOS 5DS may be a better choice.
