Redesigned while retaining impressive image and optical attributes, the LEICA Q2 is an advanced compact camera characterized by its updated sensor design and intuitive operation. Revolving around a revised full-frame 47.3MP CMOS sensor and a Maestro II image processor, it is possible to take high-resolution photographs along with DCI and UHD 4K video recording. The image processor also contributes to a wide ISO 50-50000 sensitivity range along with fast continuous shooting of 10fps resolution. The additional resolution also offers a number of unique grow modes, which simulate working with longer focal length lenses, including 35mm, 50mm and 75mm fields of view.

Speaking of the lens, the Q2 features the same impressive first wide-angle Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH. Fixed lens, which has been adapted to the sensor design for exceptional resolution and clarity. The lens design incorporates three aspherical elements and its bright maximum aperture of f/1.7 adapts to working in low light conditions. In addition, a macro setting allows working with subjects as close as 6.7" away.

Complementing the imaging and optical assets, the Q2 remains a particularly compact and intuitive camera, suitable for street and travel photography. It features a high-resolution 3.68MP OLED electronic viewfinder for clear and fluid monitoring at eye level and a 1.04m 3.0" rear LCD touchscreen with dots that also allows for playback and control of simple settings. Built-in Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi allow wireless sharing and remote camera control from a linked mobile device via the LEICA PHOTOS app.

With a reconstructed imaging system, the Q2 incorporates a 47.3MP high-resolution full-frame CMOS sensor along with an updated Maestro II image processor, which provides more flexible image creation along with smooth color and tonal reproduction, a wide dynamic range of 13 stops, low noise, and a wide sensitivity range of ISO 50-50000. The processing capabilities also offer fast shooting performance, up to 10fps at full resolution with a mechanical shutter, along with an especially fast 49-area autofocus system. Still images can be recorded as 14-bit DNG and JPEG files. The added resolution also allows for unique digital zoom capabilities to simulate working with different focal length lenses: 30 MP images can be created using a 35mm field of view, 15 MP images with a 50mm field of view, and 7 MP with a 75mm field of view.

In addition to still images, the Q2 features enhanced video recording with the ability to record DCI 4K24p and UHD 4K30p videos, along with high-speed Full HD recording up to 120p.

Key to the popularity of the Q series is the addition of a 28mm f/1.7 Summilux fixed wide-angle main lens. Combining LEICA 's optical know-how with a design perfectly suited to the image sensor, this lens incorporates three aspherical elements to control distortion and spherical aberrations for precise and precise processing. Its fast maximum aperture of f/1.7 also excels in low-light conditions and offers better depth-of-field control. Extending its versatility, a specific macro focus position can also be used to work with subjects as close as 6.7" away. In addition, optical image stabilization helps offset the effects of camera shakes for sharper shots on the handheld.
