The base Atomos Ninja Phone allows us to use the excellent screen of an iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max as an external monitor, offering a much more accurate color reproduction than the integrated screen. It has an input for HDMI and video output via USB-C. By having a USBC port, it allows us to continue using accessories such as microphones. The Ninja Phone allows us to use the iPhone as a monitor for ProRes/H.265 camera and encoders.

Atomos Ninja Phone | iPhone as a Camera Monitor

The Atomos Ninja Phone Video Coprocessor is a 10-bit video coprocessor for smartphones and tablets that allows you to record from professional cameras via HDMI. Designed to take advantage of the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and their OLED display, the Ninja Phone lets you encode an HDMI signal to ProRes or H.265. The encoded video is sent via a USB-C output to your iPhone's USB-C input, where your A17 SoC processor decodes the signal and displays it on your iPhone's screen, which features a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG. It can also display 11 stops of dynamic range with a peak brightness of 1600 nits. ProRes encoded video can be stored on your iPhone as a .mov file and/or simultaneously transcoded to 10-bit H.265 for workflows including camera to cloud or live streaming using the iPhone's 5G and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.

You'll also be able to take advantage of the iPhone's external accessories by using a separate USB-C port that allows you to work with microphones and other third-party accessories. Power is delivered via NP Series batteries, a battery eliminator, or a 5V/3A USB-C input. When one of these power sources is in use, the Ninja Phone also charges your phone and any connected accessories, helping to ensure longer run times.

The Ninja Phone iPhone app, which is available as a free download, makes it easy to control and coordinate both the Ninja Phone and your iPhone. It also allows social media creators to shoot in 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait mode and is available for iOS and iPadOS.

Please note that a Ninja case for iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max is required for use.
