Thanks to a minimum focusing distance of 0.95 meters and a maximum magnification of 0.32x, it provides much wider photographic coverage than previous models.

Compact and lightweight telephoto lens with excellent portability

Despite its compact and lightweight design, weighing approximately 819 grams this zoom lens projects an image that covers the sensor of 35mm full-frame digital cameras. It provides a focal length range of 70mm to 210mm for easy outdoor photography with the camera in hand. When mounted on an APS-C format camera, its focal length range increases to the equivalent of 107mm to 322mm in the 35mm format. Along with its compact and lightweight body, it can be easily integrated into any APS-C format camera system. Its 20-element optical construction in 14 groups features three ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements and two anomalous dispersion elements to deliver high-contrast, high-resolution images with end-to-end sharpness, while compensating for chromatic and coma distortions and aberrations.

In addition to a minimum focusing distance of 0.95 meters, the lens body has been designed so that it does not extend during autofocus and keeps the original dimensions intact. This allows the photographer to enjoy photography in a wide range of outdoor situations, including show photography, cityscapes (providing a beautiful bokeh effect in the foreground and background), close-ups of animals and plants, sports and wildlife, where its exceptional portability proves very useful.

Minimum focusing distance of 0.95

This lens can be as a telephoto lens, since a minimum focusing distance of 0.95 meters has been reached for both the telephoto and wide-angle lenses, with a maximum magnification of 0.32x. When using with an APS-C format camera, the maximum magnification is 0.48x.

HD coating to increase image power

This lens features the latest HD (high definition) coating from PENTAX. Compared to conventional multilayer coatings, this high-quality multilayer coating not only improves light transmission but also reduces the average reflectivity in the visible light range by more than 50 percent, minimizing adverse effects such as flashes or ghosting even in backlit conditions.

• The telephoto zoom is designed for K-mount PENTAX full-frame DSLRs, however, it can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an equivalent focal length range of 105-315mm.

• The constant maximum aperture of f/4 provides constant brightness throughout the zoom range and offers improved control over depth of field.

• Three extra-low dispersion elements and two anomalous scattering elements help reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range to improve clarity and color accuracy.

• Multilayer HD coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce surface reflections, flares and ghosting for greater contrast and colour fidelity when working in bright lighting conditions.

• The ring-type supersonic direct drive (SDM) motor delivers fast, quiet and precise focusing performance to suit working with moving subjects. A quick-shift focus system also allows for quick switching between AF and MF settings and a two-type focus range limiter helps speed up focus times.

• Internal focus and zoom mechanisms maintain the full length of the lens during use for easier, more intuitive operation and faster performance.

• A moisture-resistant construction benefits the use of this lens in inclement conditions, and an SP (Super Protect) coating has also been applied to the front element of the lens to protect against dust, dirt and stains.

• The rounded nine-leaf diaphragm contributes to a pleasant bokeh quality.

• The electromagnetic diaphragm allows for more precise exposure control during video recording. This mechanism is only available when used in conjunction with the K-1 Mark II, K-1, K-3 Mark II, K-3, KP, K-70, K-50, K-S2 and K-S1 cameras.
