ContactDesigned for vloggers, the PANASONIC G100 camera is a mirrorless Micro Four Thirds camera with a specialized feature set for multimedia content creators. Featuring a 3.0" LCD touchscreen with free-angle tilt for easy selfie framing, 4K video recording, and Nokia's optimized OZO audio, the G100 also has a compact, take-anywhere design for travel journaling and on-the-go photography.
Beyond competent imaging capabilities, the G100's sleek design also incorporates a high-resolution electronic viewfinder for bright, clear shots at eye level and features a unique vlogging-specific user interface that makes recording a more intuitive process. Benefiting both stills and video is the sensor-shifting 5-axis Hybrid I.S., which compensates for camera shake when walking or moving to deliver sharper, smoother images. In addition, the built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth also allow wireless connectivity to quickly share photos and videos to your smartphone or to operate the camera remotely.
Delving into imaging capabilities a bit more, the G100 has a 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds MOS sensor and Venus Engine image processor, which contribute to smooth image quality, low noise, and high dynamic range. UHD 4K video recording is supported up to 30p, as well as Full HD at 60p, and external FHD recording is possible via the micro-HDMI port. The sensor and processor also enable DFD autofocus, for fast and accurate focusing and subject tracking, as well as creative 4K PHOTO, Post Focus and Focus Stacking modes on the PANASONIC G100 camera.
Optimized for high-speed, high-resolution images, the G100 features a 20.3MP Micro Four Thirds MOS sensor, without a low-pass filter, and an enhanced Venus Engine processor to create sharp, detailed images and UHD 4K video. This setting maximizes resolution while keeping noise to a minimum, allowing the use of sensitivities up to ISO 25600.
Versatile video capabilities mean the G100 can record 4K UHD at up to 30p, with 8-bit colour depth and 4:2:0 sampling while recording internally, along with Full HD at up to 60p. Alternatively, Full HD external recording is supported via micro-HDMI with 4:2:2 sampling and 8-bit color depth. V-Log L has been pre-installed and is used to capture a flat, neutral gamma curve suitable for classification along with a LUT for greater control over color. In addition, to creatively affect the way motion is rendered, 4x and 2x slow and 8x, 4x and fast 2x motion settings can be used with Full HD recording and Time Lapse and Stop Motion settings are also available to record subjects that transform over time. In addition, a 3.5mm microphone input is available for enhanced external audio capture.
Using the G100's video recording capabilities, there are a trio of still image capture modes available for recording 8MP continuous stills at a capture rate of 30fps:
Another attribute of the 4K capabilities is a unique focusing method called Post Focus. Working in tandem with the contrast-detection focus system and intelligent Depth from Defocus (DFD) technology, Post Focus records images as a 4K MP4 file at 30fps and changes the specific focus point during burst shooting to give you a range of different focus ranges to choose from. During playback, via the camera's touchscreen, you can tap on the specific region of the image you want to focus on and an 8MP JPEG file will be created. Multiple individual files with different focus points can be created from the original burst, and focus assist functions can also be used to gain even more precise control over the specific region in focus.
This technology also makes it possible to produce images stacked in focus in the camera for greater depth of field, especially when photographing close-up subjects. In this mode, images are recorded and saved with different focus points and then blended together for an extended depth of field.
For accelerated autofocus performance, DFD (Depth from Blur) technology is used to quickly calculate the distance to subjects and adjust the focus position, enabling continuous shooting with continuous AF. This contrast-detection type focusing method benefits both still image and video recording modes, as well as subject tracking applications where subject color, size, and motion vectors are used to intelligently lock on moving subjects and ensure accurate focusing. When working with portrait subjects, face/eye detection capabilities make it easier to photograph people and prioritize focus as specifically as on a subject's pupil. Sensitivity and focusing speed can be adjusted to further improve performance with certain subjects. In addition, AF sensitivity down to -4 EV allows you to work in low-light conditions.
Features of the 12-32mm f3.5-5.6 PANASONIC Lens
The PANASONIC 12-32mm f3.5-5.6 lens is a wide-angle to telephoto short focal length zoom lens for Micro Four Thirds format cameras. Its 35mm focal length equivalence is 24-64mm. With a retractable design, the lens is quite compact, especially when the camera is turned off. A simple twist of the zoom ring extends the lens when you're ready to shoot and retracts when you're not using.
Panasonic's MEGA Optical Image Stabilization provides compensation against camera shake to create images with less blur when shooting in low light or at any time the shutter speed is slower. Three aspherical lens elements and an extra-low dispersion (ED) element minimize aberrations and contribute to high-contrast, color-accurate images. The lens can focus from as low as 7.9" at the wide-angle end and as close as 12" at standard and telephoto lengths.
