The DMC-G6 features the powerful new Venus Engine processor and the 16.05-megapixel Live MOS sensor, improving the ISO sensitivity range to the point that it is capable of extending up to 25,600. The Venus Engine image processor further reduces noise. Expanding the noise control level further improves the controlled image area this helps to produce a clearer and sharper image, especially in night scenes. In addition, the NR (Noise Reduction) Multiprocessor works on two separate levels allowing for more precise control.

The G6 has built-in Wi-Fi and NFC (Near Field Communication) technology inside the camera. With this, PANASONIC facilitates the upload of files so that sharing on social networks, sending by mail or storing in the cloud is easier and faster than ever. Thanks to this novelty, PANASONIC has developed the Direct Wi-Fi function that allows you to pass the image that appears on the camera screen to the screen of another device, such as a tablet or smartphone, directly by simply bringing both devices closer.

The G6's quality improvements aren't just limited to photographs. There are also important firsts in the video recording mode such as the Cine 24p Format that allows you to capture moving images in cinema format. The sensor and Venus Engine make it possible for the camera to record in Full HD 1080/50p and stereo sound with professional video quality and minimal noise. A wind noise reduction function is also available to block out most of this background noise. In addition to the stereo microphone function, the DMC-G6 is equipped with a 3.5mm terminal for external microphone.

Another novelty in the wide range of AF modes is the "Low Light AF" that manages to focus accurately in low light conditions. The latter is a novelty, since the G5 did not incorporate it. On the other hand, with the Time Lapse Shot option, once you have set both the start time, the interval and the number of images you want to shoot, the camera automatically captures the images. In fact, you can leave the camera and record scenes of blooming flowers, sliding clouds, or wild animals in the wild.

The LUMIX incorporates five new creative filters, which gives the G6 a total of 19 filters to achieve more artistic photographs and videos.
