To design this new Lumix, the engineering teams at PANASONIC have conceived this camera from scratch. It is a totally new camera rethought to be able to offer the quality of the Micro Four Thirds sensor in a very compact body. The total remodeling has been thanks to the reduction of its main components, such as the replacement of the traditional pressurized aluminum frame of conventional mirrorless cameras with a resistant magnesium alloy body, which has meant a reduction in the total size by 40%. The result is a camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor that fits in your pocket and is a good tool for day to day, but without sacrificing operation or image quality.

The most outstanding innovation responds to the complete redesign of the shutter system, which now includes a single curtain controlled by a stepper motor using the electronic sensor control as the first shutter, thus eliminating the spring mechanism of the mirrorless models (DLSM) and Conventional SLR (DSLR).

The sensor unit's super sonic wave (SSWF) filter and internal filters have also been redesigned. Now, in addition, the integrated flash mechanism takes up less space inside the camera body.

Despite its interior engineering work, the Lumix GM1 offers a refined exterior design, classic style thanks to aluminum dials and metal finish. In addition, it has a black and orange synthetic leather coating that also evokes the aesthetics of classic cameras. This is how the new camera offers the perfect balance between style and photographic performance in any situation, but always with the highest image quality.

With a 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor based on Micro Four Thirds system standards, the new Lumix GM1 captures every scene with great realism, while offering accurate color reproduction and fast high-resolution image processing. The photodiode of each of the pixels is larger, improving the dynamic range and ISO sensitivity, as well as the signal noise ratio by 25% compared to previous models.

Equipped with the latest Venus Engine image processor, the sensor captures incredibly detailed images, even in low-light environments or moving images. This allows for smooth, natural images, with sharper reproduction and minimal noise. The Venus Engine's advanced noise reduction multiprocessor detects noise, regardless of its size, and effectively reduces it while respecting texture and detail. The high-precision processing signal ensures a wider dynamic range and homogenized tonal reproduction to create more balanced images with the perfect exposure for both bright areas and shadows.

The advances of the Lumix GM1 in terms of image quality also allow the creation of cinematic quality videos thanks to the recording in Full HD (1080p) format in Progressive AVCHD or MP4. The new model allows the recording of sound in high quality through Dolby Digital. The Wind Cut function also blocks the vast majority of interference caused by background air.

Miniature size for limitless creative freedom

It's the perfect model for photography lovers who want to explore their creativity: the Lumix GM1 offers the option of fully manual control but also a variety of creative features, as well as smart modes and simple guides for users who start in photography.

The three-inch touchscreen with an approximate resolution of 1,036,000 dots makes it easier to frame photos, focus and even shoot the shutter with just one tap. Both photos and video can be viewed in incredible colour and detail, and then shared immediately thanks to Wi-Fi.

The 22 creative filters allow the user to add a personal touch to each image, making each of the shots become an artistic work. Thus, effects such as Toy Pop, Dynamic Monochrome or Cross Process can be applied. The model also allows the creation of Time Lapse or stop-motion animations.

The Lumix GM1 includes intelligent automatic modes, such as the iA or iA Plus, which offer easy use by immediately identifying the conditions of the scene and automatically applying the most appropriate settings for each situation. The new intelligent freehand night shooting system and an intelligent HDR mode allows multiple exposures of the same frame to produce a perfectly exposed image, giving the user the freedom to focus on the composition of the image.

Sharing options with wireless control

Wi-Fi makes it possible to easily connect the new Lumix GM1 with smartphones and tablets to post photos or video clips on social media or send them via e-mail at the same time they have been recorded. With Instant Transfer, users can archive images on their computer wirelessly and using their home Wi-Fi network, making sure they can archive their favorite moments with minimal effort.

Wireless connectivity options also allow remote shooting via the PANASONIC Image App, which is available completely free of charge for Android and iOS operating systems in their respective app stores. This function makes smartphones or tablets act as a remote controller, being possible to adjust parameters such as focus peaking, aperture, shutter speed or ISO sensitivity before shooting the photograph. Subsequently, with the Remote Viewing option, the images can be reviewed.

An advanced optical result

Despite its compact size, the Lumix GM1 is compatible with the world's widest range of Micro Four Thirds lenses and accessories, ensuring that at all times the user has the most appropriate settings to capture the images.

In order to maximize the full potential of this model, the Lumix GM1 will be marketed at the end of November in different kits available. On the one hand, the DMC-GM1K model, available in silver (combined silver and black) and orange (combined orange and silver) will include the Lumix G VARIO 12-32mm/F3.5-F5.6 ASPH lens, with incredible optical power in an incredibly miniaturized and motorized body. Consisting of eight lenses, including three aspherical lenses and an Extra Low Dispersion (ED) lens, these lenses offer a very flexible, compact and lightweight zoom range.

In addition, the DMC-GM1W model, available in silver (combined silver and black) includes the Lumix G VARIO 12-32mm/F3.5-F5.6 ASPH lens above, the Lumix G 20mm/F1.7 ASF lens ideal for low-light photography and street photography and the aluminium grip for greater ergonomics and camera stability (DMW-HGR1).
