The PENTAX smc lens PENTAX-DA 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 ED SDM is an all-encompassing zoom lens, with a 15x zoom range from 18mm width to 270mm length (equivalent to 27.5-414mm in 35mm format). Benefiting from the long range of this lens, two extra-low dispersion elements have been incorporated into the lens construction to help reduce chromatic aberration and improve overall image clarity. A minimum focusing distance of 1.6' over the entire zoom range also makes this lens an effective tool for macro work and close-ups.

The SDM autofocus system has also been integrated into the design, which uses a supersonic motor for fast and quiet autofocus operation. The lens also features a rounded 7-blade diaphragm to soften focus zones and less susceptibility to highlight streaks.
