The NIKON AF-S NIKKOR 200-400mm f/4G ED VR II, which covers an impressive range of telephoto focal lengths, is a versatile zoom well suited for sports and wildlife photography. A constant maximum aperture of f/4 allows for constant illumination throughout the zoom range and this relatively bright design also offers greater control over depth of field. An advanced optical design, including four extra-low dispersion elements, produces highly corrected image quality that lacks chromatic aberrations and color stripes for remarkable clarity and color accuracy. In addition, a nano-crystal coating and a super-integrated coating have been applied to control flare and ghosting to improve contrast in backlit and harsh lighting conditions. As a complement to the optics, this lens also has a silent wave motor for fast and accurate autofocus along with VR II image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake in three stops.

• The telephoto zoom is designed for F-mount cameras in FX format, however, it can also be used with DX models where it will provide an equivalent focal length range of 300-600mm.
• The constant maximum aperture of f/4 allows for constant illumination throughout the zoom range and also offers greater control over depth of field to isolate subjects and work with selective focus techniques.

An internal focus design is also used, where only groups of internal lenses move during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use, and to promote faster focusing speeds.
• VR II (Vibration Reduction) image stabilization helps minimize the appearance of camera vibration in three stops to benefit handheld in difficult lighting conditions.
• The benefits of the rotary tripod collar work with the lens on a tripod or monopod.
• The rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasant focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focusing techniques.
