Large focal length, compact and lightweight design. The NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S, from NIKON, is a super prime telephoto lens distinguished by the unique combination of one of the longest focal lengths available in a surprisingly portable package. This distinctive design is made possible by the inclusion of a Phase Fresnel element, which reduces overall weight by 50% and length by 16% compared to the previous 800mm f/5.6 F-mount lens.

Compact and lightweight design

A sophisticated combination of technologies makes this super-telephoto lens a relatively elegant lens, opening up new possibilities for a focal length that was previously relegated to tripod/monopod use.

• The Phase Fresnel element not only compensates for chromatic aberrations and color stripes, but also replaces several conventional glass elements to promote a more compact and lightweight optical design.
• The modest f/6.3 maximum aperture strikes a balance between a virtually glossy design and lightweight construction.
• Compared to the previous 800mm f/5.6 F-mount lens, which weighs over 10lbs, this new 800mm f/6.3 Z-mount lens weighs half as much at 5.25lbs. In addition, the specific design for mirrorless cameras also contributes to an overall lens length reduction, which measures a little over 15" long, compared to the previous lens which is 18" long.

S-line optics

• This lens, which helps virtually eliminate chromatic aberrations, color fringes and commatic aberrations, features three ED (extra low dispersion) glass elements, along with an SR (short wavelength refraction) element.
• The SR element features a specialized high-dispersion design that refracts wavelengths shorter than blue; This helps to achieve truly accurate color reproduction and also helps to make the lens design more compact.
• Nano Crystal Coat has been applied for complete anti-glare protection at all angles, helping to suppress ghosting, reflections and flare for higher contrast and more accurate colour response when working in intense lighting and backlight conditions.

Autofocus and vibration reduction

• The multifocus system incorporates two separate AF control units, which are synchronized, to offer a particularly fast and accurate autofocus. This system uses stepper motors, which deliver impressively smooth and quiet AF performance that is well suited to still image and video applications.
• It is also possible to override manual focus full-time and an internal focus design is used, where only the internal lens groups move during focusing, to maintain the full length of the lens during use and promote faster focusing speeds.

• Vibration Reduction image stabilization reduces the appearance of camera shake by approximately 5 stops to better enable manual shooting in low-light situations.
• Synchro VR is also compatible when paired with sensor-shifting VR compatible cameras, which combines in-body VR with optical VR for enhanced results of up to 5.5 stops of compensation.

Professional Management and Construction

• The physical design focuses the center of gravity around the tripod mount for a smoother and more responsive panorama, especially when working on a tripod or monopod. The tripod mount also rotates to more easily switch between vertical and horizontal shooting orientations.
• Compatible with optional Z-Teleconverter TC-1.4x and TC-2x to further extend the reach of this lens.
• The intuitive "no-look" control design places all frequently used buttons and dials in easily accessible places to avoid the need to move the viewfinder eye.
• Advanced waterproof sealing includes rubber gaskets to prevent dust and moisture ingress, the lens body is made of a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy, and the exposed elements have a fluorine coating that repels dirt and oils and is easier to clean.
• Store a focus position with the Memory Adjustment button so you can instantly return to this position by rotating the Fn ring, perfect for capturing fleeting movements.
• Two customizable L-Fn buttons can be configured to configure subject tracking, AF lock, image playback, or other modes. The L-Fn2 button can also be accessed from four different locations on the barrel for easy access.
• The focus limiter switch can restrict the focus range to 32.8' to infinity or from the full focus range of 16.4' to infinity.
• The programmable control ring can also be used to control aperture, ISO or exposure compensation.
• Kensington lock bracket to secure the lens in place during remote shooting sessions.
• Use 46mm drop-in filters via the included filter holder.
