The first camera LEICA M part of the system was the LEICA M3, introduced in 1954. A camera that was distinguished by absolute precision both optically and mechanically, focusing on the essential parameters necessary in photography. A camera with features that clearly placed the photographer's skills in the foreground. Continuously refined over six decades, these unique features, today in combination with the latest technological innovations, still differentiate the current LEICA M models from other cameras.

And now, on the 60th anniversary of this legendary camera, LEICA presents a commemorative limited edition: the LEICA M Edition 60. The set consists of a digital camera LEICA M-P (Type 240) and the luminous LEICA Summilux-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH lens, both in special modified versions created by Audi Design, which pay homage to the essence of photography and take it back to its origins.

Reduced to just the essential camera features, the LEICA M Edition 60 is the first digital camera to concentrate exclusively on the basic functions required for digital photography, i.e. shutter speed, aperture, focus and ISO sensitivity. This is also the reason for the change of the camera screen for an ISO sensitivity selector dial. For quality reasons, exposures are saved as raw data in DNG format. Working with the LEICA M Edition 60 requires the same care and attention as working with an analog model.

With the LEICA M Edition 60, photographers frame the subject in the viewfinder, adjust the aperture and speed, and press the shutter release at the decisive moment. Instead of the constant distraction of intrusive technologies and the continuous checking of menu settings and controls, the photographer enjoys the freedom of being able to fully concentrate on his subjects. With this concept, LEICA is again synonymous with an art, photography, in which technology plays a subordinate role to the creative aspects.

In addition to these unusual features, the exceptional finish is a highlight of the LEICA M Edition 60. Stainless steel, a material that is extremely difficult to work with, has been used for the visible metal elements of the camera and lens. Extremely resistant and durable, this material guarantees and provides products with a refined character. Its premium appearance is complemented to a greater extent thanks to its special anthracite leather finish applied to the camera body.

Limited to 600 units worldwide, the cameras and lenses of the LEICA M Edition 60 incorporate unique serial numbers between 001/600 and 600/600. The M cameras also bear the engravings 'LEICA 60' and 'LEICA Camera Wetzlar'. This special edition includes a camera protector, also created by Audi Design.
