The Lens LEICA R Lens for SONY NEX Camera Speed Booster from Metabones allows a full frame R Lens to be mounted on an APS-C LEICA R lens to be mounted on an APS-C format NEX camera and, in doing so, increases the angle of view and increases the maximum aperture by one f/stop.

When a lens intended for full frame or 35mm film sensors is mounted on a camera with an APS-C sized sensor, it transmits a larger area of light than the smaller sensor was built to accept and, therefore, the effective angle of view of the lens increases . The Speed Booster condenses light from the lens and projects it onto the APS-C sensor which allows the sensor to utilize all of the lenses 'light and effectively produce a full frame angle of view with an APS-C sensor. A corresponding increase in maximum aperture of one f/stop makes the lens more effective in low light situations and capable of creating a depth of field.

Metabones SpeedBoosters are quality made, using precision machined brass with chrome plating on both the camera body and the lens side of the booster dose in order to ensure a trouble free mount, aesthetic quality, and durability. This adapter has a detachable tripod foot that is compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins and ball heads.

Although the lens physically fits, automatic aperture (AE metering), or other auto functions are not retained using this speed brace. Supertelephoto lenses LEICA R lenses such as the Telyt 560/5 .6 may vignette into corners and the following lenses require modification in order to fit the Speed Booster: Super-Elmar-R 15mm, Elmarit R 28/2 .8, Elmarit R 35/2 .8 , Summicron R 50/2.

These Speed Boosters are only fully compatible with mirrorless APS-C housing cameras or smaller image sensors. They physically fit the full frame mirrorless cameras SONY A7/A7R mirrorless cameras but the camera must be set to crop mode to fully support the functions of the speed booster .

This Metabones Speed Booster features two different operating modes, Green and Advanced. In Green Mode battery power is conserved by reducing certain functions. For example, in Green mode there is no depth of field preview and no auto magnify manual focus assist. The mode of operation is set when the lens is mounted.

The lens ' aperture is set to " wide open " to facilitate focusing while the Metabones Speed Booster 's Wide Open (WO) button is depressed. Release the button and the lens will return to the aperture set on the camera. This wide-open feature automatically turns off when actually taking a photograph and during video capture .

The Speed Booster features a detachable tripod foot that is compatible with Arca Swiss, Markins, Photo Ball Cam heads.
