ColorChecker Classic

The ColorChecker® Classic lens is designed to produce reproductions of real images so that photographers can predict and control the appearance of colors in any lighting. The 24 patches represent the colors of natural objects and each patch reflects light exactly as its counterpart in the real world.

The ColorChecker® Classic lens is a checkerboard arrangement standard with 24 patches of natural, chromatic, primary, and scientifically chosen grayscale colors in a wide range of colors. Many of these squares represent natural objects of special interest, such as human skin, foliage and blue sky. Since they illustrate the color of their counterparts and reflect light in the same way in all parts of the visible spectrum, the patches will match the colors of natural objects from representative samples in any lighting and with any color reproduction process. The ColorChecker Classic can also be used to create a white balance with your digital camera to ensure an accurate, uniform and neutral white in any lighting condition.

To compare digital reproductions with real scenes or test targets, simply include the ColorChecker in your first photo if you are shooting in JPEG or conventionally, or in any photo in the series if you are shooting in RAW. Later in the studio, use the photo to compare, measure, and analyze differences in color rendering in any color rendering system. This standard lens will help you avoid costly errors and color correction with the post-event scoring method.
