Leica 18 mm f3.8 Super Elmar M Asph.

The Super-Elmar-M 18mm f/3.8 ASPH LEICA lens is ideal for a wide range of applications, from reportage photography to landscape and architectural photography. When used with the digital LEICA M models, LEICA M8 and LEICA M8.2, the effective focal length increases to the 35 mm format equivalent of 24 mm. Optics can also be used in all analog LEICA M camera models, where its extremely short focal length of 18mm opens up numerous new opportunities for composition and creative expression.

As far as image quality is concerned, vignetting and distortion, common problems of extreme wide-angle lenses, have been corrected. Thanks to its excellent contrast levels and detail reproduction, the maximum aperture of 3.8 can be used without problems, with wide depth of field ranging from infinity to 1.2 meters. Its design is eight elements in seven groups, and incorporates two aspherical surfaces, to correct aberrations to a minimum. It also incorporates a rectangular parasol of compact size.
