The NIKON 300mm f4 D ED IF AF-S Lens is an advanced quality compact and robust first effective telephoto lens for a wide range of tele-photography, from sport and wildlife shooting to close-up portrait to the overall landscape of photography. It is designed for FX format DSLRs however it will work in DX format as well and offers an equivalence of 35mm focal length of 450mm on DX format DSLRs. Two extra low dispersion optical glass elements virtually eliminate secondary optical chromatic aberrations and Super Integrated Coating NIKON reduces reflections and stray lights.

The silent wave motor (SWM) allows for fast, quiet autofocus with seamless manual control and the internal focus design maintains a compact, lightweight shape, while maintaining the rotating front element, which is preferable when using certain filters.

Physically, the lens offers a built-in sunshade to deflect unwanted light, a large focus ring, and a detachable rotating tripod collar for stable, vibration-free shooting. The lens also supports a manual aperture ring and is compatible with teleconverters NIKON for greater range.

This lens autofocus feature is compatible with NIKON DSLRs offering a built-in autofocus motor. It does not support autofocus when used with certain DSLR cameras that do not feature an integrated focus motor, such as the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, D3200, D3300, D5000, D5100, D5200, D5300, and D5500.
