With its 114th image angle and fast f/2.8 aperture, this lens offers a dramatic viewing angle in demanding situations. In DX format cameras your viewing angle is 90º, which corresponds to a focal length equivalence of 21 mm in 35 mm format. extra low dispersion (ED) glass elements and two aspherical lenses guarantee a superior image quality and a compact design.

For more accurate exposure control, the "D" lens object distance information is transmitted from the lens to the camera, for a multi-sensor 3D and 3D matrix measurement of fill-balanced flash with appropriate NIKON cameras and flashes. An integrated aperture control ring built into the lens hood are offered.
