Various types of optical aberrations can affect the image quality of a lens. Chromatic aberration is one of the most important, and minimizing it is essential. There are two types of chromatic aberrations: transverse, which can be corrected with digital processing, and axial, difficult to reduce once the photograph is taken. In the SIGMA 35mm F1.4 DG HSM, the FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) crystal, equivalent in characteristics to fluorite, and the SLD (Special Low Dispersion) crystal help optimize the power distribution of the lens. This optimization minimizes axial chromatic aberration by causing different wavelengths of light to attack the same focusing position, while also minimizing transverse chromatic aberration. In addition, aspherical lenses help minimize astigmatism and field curvature. Thanks to these features, the resolution is extremely high from the center to the edges of the image.
