The Samyang 16mm T2.2 VDSLR ED AS IF UMC lens is a wide-angle lens optimized for digital cinematography. The lens produces an image circle that covers APS-C sensors of size or smaller. The focus and aperture rings feature industry standard 0.8 gearing to place a focus tracking device. The aperture ring is also click-off to allow soft irises to be pulled during filming. Focus, aperture, and depth of field markings are on the side of the lens to assist focus extractors, which typically works on the camera side. The 16mm T2.2 lens is constructed from 13 individual elements in 11 groups, including one aspherical and one hybrid aspherical element. Aspherical elements help minimize unwanted distortion and chromatic aberrations. The lens also has a multilayer coating to reduce breakouts and maintain image contrast in light conditions. With a viewing angle of 83.1°, the lens is well suited for photographing landscapes, architecture, and for use in narrow indoor locations. A maximum aperture of T2.2 means that the lens is effective for shooting in low light and a depth of field can occur when the target is closer to the subject. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 7.87". A hood bag and mounting bayonet lenses come bundled with the lens.
