The NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S is a wide-angle focal lens for everything from landscape to street shooting, and is characterized by its versatility and brilliant f/1.8 maximum aperture. Furthering its advantages, the optical design features two extra-low dispersion elements and three aspherical elements, which reduce a variety of aberrations and distortions to produce images with high sharpness, clarity and accurate color reproduction. Both Nano Crystal and Super Integrated Coatings are also used to suppress reflections and ghosting for greater color fidelity and higher contrast.


Benefiting optics, a stepper motor provides fast, quiet and accurate autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override to suit both still images and video applications. In addition, a programmable control ring can be configured for intuitive adjustment in a variety of camera and exposure settings.

  • The Prime wide-angle lens is designed for FX-format Z-mount mirrorless cameras.
  • Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits that work in difficult lighting conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field to isolate subjects and work with selective focus.
  • Three aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion for sharp images with accurate representation.
  • Two extra-low dispersion elements greatly reduce color stripes and chromatic aberrations to produce greater clarity and color reproduction.
  • A nanocrystal layer, along with a super-integrated layer, has been applied to the lens elements to minimize internal and surface reflections for a marked reduction in lens reflection and the appearance of ghosting.
  • The stepper motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet and fast autofocus performance that is suitable for both still images and video applications. It is also possible to override full-time manual focus and an internal focus design is used, where only the internal lens clusters are moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use, and to promote faster focusing speeds.
  • The programmable control ring is set by default to adjust manual focus, but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
  • The specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater exposure control stability which is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous firing speeds.
  • The nine-blade rounded diaphragm promotes a pleasant unfocused quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focusing techniques.
  • Dust and moisture resistant lens barrel benefits the use of the lens in inclement conditions.
