Compact and capable, the NIKON Z 5 is an FX-format mirrorless camera with a well-rounded feature set to meet photo and video needs. Its 24.3MP CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 processor offer wide sensitivity at ISO 51200, fast recording at 4.5 fps and 4K UHD video at 30 fps.

The imaging capabilities further translate into a refined autofocus system with 273 selectable points, and it's a hybrid focusing system that uses phase detection and contrast detection methods for accurate high-speed focus with expert subject tracking. Face detection can be used in both still image and video modes, while more accurate eye detection benefits portrait photographers working with human or animal subjects.

Complementing the sensor and processor is a sleek yet versatile physical design that includes a magnesium alloy chassis with a weather-sealed construction to fit the job in harsh weather conditions. A high-resolution 3.6m dot OLED electronic viewfinder allows for high-resolution eye-level viewing, while a 3.2" and 1.04m rear tilting LCD touchscreen accommodates work from high and low angles. What's more, for easy sharing, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work in conjunction with the snapBridge NIKON app to transfer photos and videos wirelessly and remotely control the camera from your mobile device.

• 24.3MP FX Package CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 6 Image Processor

The 24.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor and FX package is combined with an EXPEED 6 image processor to provide a versatile blend of high sensitivity, nuanced image quality, and fast overall performance. A native sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200 allows working in a wide range of lighting conditions and can be further extended up to ISO 102400 for extreme low light conditions. The combination of sensor resolution and size also contributes to clean image quality and smooth color transitions with reduced noise across the sensitivity range. In addition to benefiting image quality, the EXPEED 6 processor also offers useful speed throughout the camera system, including a maximum full-resolution continuous shooting speed of 4.5fps, as well as the ability to take 8MP when recording video.

In addition to images, the sensor design also incorporates a 273-point hybrid autofocus system that uses phase detection and contrast detection methods to quickly and accurately acquire focus for both still image and video applications. This focusing system supports Eye Detection AF, which uses facial recognition to help fix focus on subjects' eyes, along with Face Detection for still images and videos, for both humans and animals.

• 4K UHD video recording

Capable of recording more than still images, the Z 5 supports recording 4K UHD video at up to 30fps and Full HD recording at up to 60fps, with the ability to save movie files to memory cards on the camera or to an optional external recorder via HDMI output. 4K UHD recording uses a 1.7x crop of the middle of the frame, while Full HD recording uses the entire full frame. In addition, it is also possible to shoot at intervals in the camera with the ability to produce a finished 4K UHD video file directly from the camera.

• Vibration reduction by sensor change

Built into the body is a 5-axis vibration reduction (VR) mechanism with sensor shift that compensates for up to five stabilization stops, regardless of the lens in use. This system also works with adapted lenses, when using the optional FTZ adapter, where 3-axis stabilization is used. In addition, for the benefit of video recording, Electronic VR is available to help stable footage adapt to handheld.

• Body design and connectivity

1. A large 3.2" LCD screen and 1.04m dots is available for bright, clear and vivid image reproduction and live image capture. The display has a tilting design to suit work from high and low angles and is also a touchscreen for more intuitive operation, navigation and settings control.

BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi allow communication between the camera and a smart device and, additionally, the mobile device can remotely activate the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to allow working from a distance.
6. The included EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 470 shots per charge, and in-camera charging is supported via USB, even when the camera is in use. In addition, it also supports the optional MB-N10 multi-battery battery for long shooting times.

A stepper motor provides fast, quiet and accurate autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override to suit both still images and video applications.
