24.5 MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor

A 24.5 MP BSI CMOS sensor is used for panoramic shots, impressive image quality in low-light conditions, and fast readout speeds to benefit continuous shooting, movies, and time-lapse recording. The sensor's back-illuminated design also delivers remarkably clean high-sensitivity output to reduce noise when working at high ISO values. In addition, Zf features a high-resolution photo mode that combines multiple exposures to create a single 96MP file.

EXPEED 7 Image Processor

Complementing the sensor is an advanced processing engine, the EXPEED 7, which works in tandem with the sensor's design to achieve impressively fast AF speeds, burst shooting speeds, a high buffer capacity, smooth video performance, and fast handling in every way.

UHD 4K recording

Matching the camera's high-end photographic attributes, the Zf offers a variety of frame rates and resolutions for all your video needs. Oversampling from 6K, 4K UHD video recording is possible with up to 30p pixel full readout, and Full HD 1080p video recording also supports up to 120p for slow-motion playback.

Internal recording directly to a memory card with 10-bit SDR/HLG/N-log tone modes.

Fast, intelligent AF

Using deep learning technology, automatic subject detection now recognizes nine distinct types of subjects. With this AF system, subjects are automatically detected, focused, and tracked to ensure sharp focus when the subject moves across the frame. In addition, the Zf also features 3D tracking, which locks on fast-moving and erratically moving subjects parallel to and perpendicular to the camera.

Vibration Reduction

Built-in 5-axis sensor-shift vibration reduction compensates for up to 8 stops of camera shake when paired with Z-mount lenses. This system also works with adapted F-mount lenses when using the optional FTZ adapter, where 3-axis stabilization is used.

Body Design

A large 3.2" vari-angle touchscreen is available for clear, bright image reproduction and live view captures. The display allows you to work from high and low angles, while its touchscreen design allows for intuitive operation, navigation, and configuration control. The camera also now features a new Touch Fn feature, which allows you to simultaneously use the Zf's touchscreen to move focus points, select a subject to track, and toggle between viewing modes, all while using the viewfinder.

Features of the 24-70mm f/4 lens

Covering a useful range of focal lengths, the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S is a versatile zoom that spans perspectives from wide-angle to portrait perspectives. Its constant maximum aperture of f/4 maintains a constant exposure throughout the zoom range and also helps create a more compact and lightweight alternative to an f/2.8 zoom. When it comes to optical design, a unique extra-low dispersion aspherical element is used, in addition to three aspherical elements, to help reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range for high image sharpness and clarity. Nano crystal and super-integrated coatings have also been applied to control flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color reproduction in bright and backlit conditions.

Complementing the optics, a stepper motor provides fast, quiet and accurate autofocus performance along with permanent manual focus override to suit both still and video applications. A programmable control ring can be set up for intuitive adjustment in a variety of camera and exposure settings. In addition, the lens has a buttonless retractable cylinder for a more compact form factor when not in use.

The stepper motor delivers impressively smooth, quiet, and fast autofocus performance that's well suited to photo and video applications. It is also possible to override full-time manual focus and an internal focus design, where only the internal lens groups move during focusing, is used to maintain the full length of the lens during use and promote faster focusing speeds.
The programmable control ring is configured, by default, to adjust manual focus, but can also be used to control aperture or exposure compensation.
The specialized electromagnetic aperture mechanism provides greater stability of exposure control, which is especially beneficial when working with fast continuous shooting speeds.
