The LUMIX S5 has a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, which features a wide dynamic range. This camera integrates Dual Native ISO technology to reach ISO levels of 51,200. The LUMIX S5 is capable of recording video in 4K 60p/50p 4:2:0 10-bit and 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 10-bit. It also allows HDMI recording in 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit. For internal 8-bit recording in 4k 30p/25p 4:2:0 there is no time limit. PANASONIC 's heat dispersion technology enables stable, long-lasting video recordings.

The LUMIX S5 has more than 14 stops of dynamic range, the equivalent of cinema cameras, and V-log/V-Gamut compatibility with the popular "VariCam Look" colorimetry. It also offers a wide variety of formats and recording modes, including 4:3 anamorphic mode, slow and fast motion, and recording at 4K/60p and 4K HDR intervals.

This new camera has high speed AF and maximum precision in taking pictures and videos. This is possible thanks to an advanced deep learning technology that offers real-time detection of the type of subject and parts of the human body such as the eye, face, head or body.

Combining the camera body's (5-axis) image stabilizer (I.S.) and the S-Series lens's O.I.S (2-axis Optical Image Stabilizer), the I.S. Dual 2 compensates for unwanted movements or tremors during recording, allowing for a 6.5-stop lower shutter speed. The robust camera design and splash and dust resistance provide great reliability for professional photographers.

To enhance the photo experience, the 96-megapixel high-resolution mode (JPEG/RAW), the Live View Composite function and the HLG Photo mode are available.
Thanks to high energy efficiency and a new 2,200mAh high-capacity battery, the new S5 can capture approximately 470 images using LVF or 1,500 images in Power Save LVF mode. The camera also has two SD card slots (UHS-llx1 and UHS-I x1), 5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity.
