Peak Design has been working in the photography and outdoor industries for over a decade. After experiencing repeated shortcomings with other outdoor backpacks on the market, Peak developed the Outdoor Line to address issues such as poor fit, overly bulky harness systems, limited access, and "technically baroque" designs.

The line consists of 2 backpacks, 2 shoulder bags and an ecosystem of packing tools for clothing, equipment and photographic material. 

The Outdoor backpack – available in 45 and 25 liter sizes – is distinguished by its unique harness system, which uses hyper-adjustable, low-profile waist and shoulder straps to provide superior comfort and fit with significantly less volume. The shoulder straps, inspired by running vests, distribute the weight over a larger surface area, while offering convenient storage and two attachment points for the camera. 

Users have 2 different ways of access: a quick-opening superior hatch (called Ultra Cinch) and a giant rear access panel for easy storage and full visibility. The backpack offers seemingly endless capacity for external storage through its versatile Cord Hook carrying system and a net of elastic Flex Pockets™ that can hold water bottles, tripods, jackets, and more.

The Outdoor backpack is complemented by the Peak Design Outdoor Sling harness, available in 7 and 2 liter sizes. The Outdoor Sling features a padded, removable strap with custom closure and quick-adjust hardware that allows it to be quickly converted from a crossbody bag to a waist bag. The 7-liter model features external loops for carrying gear and can accommodate a camera Peak Design  X-Small Camera Cube to instantly convert into a camera bag.  Both Outdoor Slings can be mounted on the shoulder straps of the Outdoor Backpacks to provide convenient chest storage while hiking.

All of the new Peak Design bags are designed to integrate seamlessly with their Camera Cubes (updated in late 2023) and Ultralight Packing Cubes (released in June 2024), which allow users to quickly customize their backpacks for any combination of gear. Camera Cubes are available in 5 sizes to accommodate any creative kit, from mirrorless cameras and drones to full-fledged professional photography kits. All bags in the Outdoor line feature Peak's new 100% recycled and PFAS-free, weather-resistant Terra Shell outer fabric, patented abrasion-resistant Ultra Zips™, and high-cut resistant UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) cords.
