The PENTAX ZD ED binoculars have been designed to last, combining a strong and resistant exterior with very hard anti-scratch, shock lenses and capable of keeping dirt and moisture out. The interior has been filled with nitrogen, this prevents the formation of droplets that distort the image. We also highlight the extra-low dispersion lens, which achieves very sharp results.

Designed for the most demanding nature enthusiasts, the PENTAX Z-Series ZD ED binoculars feature multiple optical technologies to improve image quality and ensure accurate colors in all weather and lighting conditions, especially in low light conditions, such as at dawn and dusk when many birds and game are the most active.
Image enhancement starts with 50mm objective lenses that attract large amounts of light and extend practical usability far beyond smaller objective optics. The lenses are made with hybrid aspherical elements and extra-low dispersion (ED) glass. Aspherical elements eliminate distortion around the edges of the lens for clear edge-to-edge views and correct lens astigmatism that can prevent subjects from focusing sharply. ED glass corrects chromatic aberration to ensure colors are reproduced accurately. Fully multi-layer anti-glare optics maximize light transmission across the entire optical path so that views appear bright and sharp, especially in low-light conditions. Finally, the BAK4 ceiling prisms are phased in to improve contrast and further correct chromatic aberration. These technologies work together to produce bright, clear high-contrast images with virtually no distortion and accurate colors.
Complementing the optical performance is a housing built for a rough outdoor lifespan. The chassis is made of a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy with a rubber armor that protects against impacts and provides a non-slip grip. The optical tubes are filled with nitrogen for fog-proof performance and sealed with O-rings to make the binoculars submersible up to 3.3'. A protective external lens coating helps repel dust, water and oil to ensure unobstructed viewing. Larger lenses add weight and skew the center of balance forward, which could cause user fatigue and potential hand tremors, so for more stable views during longer eyeglass sessions, binoculars can be mounted on a tripod with an optional adapter.
