Features of the SONY 18-110mm f4 lens

With a wide focal length range and a constant aperture of f/4 in a compact form factor, the SONY E PZ 18-110mm f/4 G OSS lens offers videographers and filmmakers a versatile choice of lenses for light operations. While the lens may look small, it has professional features to back it up. The focal length range of 18-110m ranges from moderately wide to narrow viewing angles. SONY 's built-in smooth-motion optics take advantage of the lens' internal mechanics to minimize focus breathing, focus shifting, and other anomalies that would otherwise be noticeable when adjusting the lens during recording.
The lens body has separate focus, zoom and iris rings for full manual control. Simply pull the focus ring back and manual focus will be activated full-time. The focus ring itself has a built-in cine standard gear for track-focus compatibility. The zoom functionality can be operated both manually and electronically. The zoom ring is mechanically connected to the lens, so shock zooms can be achieved without delay. The iris operation can be done automatically, or by turning the iris ring. By disabling the iris click switch, manual iris adjustments can be done smoothly.
For smaller, less robust cameras, a quick-release tripod stand is included. The foot is secured towards the back of the lens for tripod use. Alternatively, a conventional lens holder can be placed near the front of the lens for compatibility with rod-based lens holders. The filter thread will accept 95mm diameter round filters and the included lens cap. A sunshade is also included to minimize glare. The closed hood design can be closed when the camera is not in use.

• Smooth motion optics

Sony's SMO (Smooth Motion Optics) design and construction minimize optical changes that can have a negative impact on image quality. Breathing focus is minimized by an internal focusing mechanism, focus shifting, while zoom is eliminated by fine-tuning focus tracking, and axial shift is minimized by a constant length design.

• Versatile zoom control

In addition to a smooth servo zoom, the mechanical manual zoom ensures precise control with immediate response. The desired viewing angle can be accurately reached by avoiding excess or underimpulse due to delay. The direction of the zoom ring can be easily changed as needed, smooth and slow zoom is supported, and an internal zoom mechanism means the lens length remains constant, regardless of focal length.

• Features of professional approach

The focus ring slides back to quickly activate manual focus. Cinema standard MOD 0.8 gear teeth are integrated into the focus ring, allowing the use of standard focus tracks without requiring awkward focus gear attachments.

• Compact design

The lightweight form factor of this lens contributes to the kind of mobility that active movie recording demands. Small size and low weight can be advantageous when using gimbals and other types of support as well.

• Optical SteadyShot

Built-in Optical SteadyShot (OSS) image stabilization helps keep recorded images stable and free from excessive blur in a wide range of handheld or blocked shooting conditions involving camera shake.
