The 150-500mm f5-6.7 is TAMRON 's first ultra telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras that reaches a focal length of 500mm. Even when extended to the maximum focal length (500mm), the lens remains compact enough for comfortable handheld shooting.
This lens enables users to enjoy shooting with consistent performance and high image quality in the telephoto realm. To make handheld telephoto shooting possible, this new lens is equipped with VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), a linear motor focusing mechanism that offers agile and quiet performance, and TAMRON 's patented VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism to provide high-performance image stabilization.
At the TAMRON 150-500 SONY E the 150 mm end, the lens offers a minimum focusing distance of 0.6 m (23.6 in.) for stunning, dramatic close-ups.
  • A maneuverable 500mm full-frame lens that defies industry standards
The 150-500 F/5-6.7 mm is only 209.6 mm (8.3 inches) long with a maximum diameter of 93 mm, an astonishingly compact size for a 500 mm telephoto lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Even when extended to its maximum aperture of 500 mm, the lens remains remarkably compact at only 283 mm (11.1 inches). Lens zoom travel from 150 to 500 mm is achieved with a ring rotation of just 75 degrees, less than a quarter turn. This feature allows quick adjustment with minimal movement of the desired angle of view, avoiding missed opportunities and facilitating intuitive composition. TAMRON 's renowned VC stabilization mechanism also significantly improves optical performance by counteracting camera shake.

  • High image quality despite compact size
The optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups. Special lens elements including one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), five LD (Low Dispersion) and two hybrid aspherical lens elements are employed to carefully control aberrations, including axial chromatic aberrations. This 150-500mm F/5-6.7 telephoto lens is designed and built with a strong emphasis on compact size and ease of use, without compromising quality, so users can enjoy exceptionally high resolving power throughout the image.

The 150-500mm F/5-6.7 features the same acclaimed VXD linear motor focusing mechanism first introduced on the 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A056). This VXD mechanism offers extremely precise, high-speed movement and ensures great responsiveness. Even when shooting at the extreme focal length of 500 mm, this lens provides fast, comfortable and accurate focusing at all shooting distances, from the farthest to the closest subjects.
Focus tracking has been significantly improved to facilitate the capture of fast-moving subjects, for example, in sporting events, bird or aviation photography. This ensures that we don't miss any key moments, whether for stills or videos. In addition, the linear motor also reduces drive noise and vibrations produced during focusing (compared to a conventional drive system), making it ideal for shooting stills and videos in quiet environments.

The compact 150-500 mm F/5-6.7 is equipped with the VC mechanism from TAMRON. The lens features a VC mode selection switch with three settings (Mode 1: Standard, Mode 2: Sweep-only and Mode 3: Framing priority) so that the stabilization mode that best suits the shooting conditions is available. This functionality offers excellent image stabilization performance, enabling efficient reduction of blur caused by camera shake.

The 150-500mm F5-6.7 has the ability to capture excellent close-ups of close subjects. The MOD (minimum focusing distance) is 0.6m (23.6 inches) at the 150mm end and 1.8m (70.9 inches) at the 500mm end of the telephoto lens. The maximum magnification ratio at 150 mm is exceptionally high at 1: 3.1. Users can obtain excellent macro images of subjects such as flowers and insects while maintaining a reasonable shooting distance - closer than they could be with any conventional telephoto lens.
