Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing system, high-speed CPU, and optimized AF algorithms, are employed to deliver fast, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance.

Zoom rotation type ring offers precise adjustment between zoom positions, especially taken by hand, and a zoom adjustment ring allows easy adjustment of zoom tension for custom control.

Weatherproof design protects the lens from dust and moisture to allow use in harsh conditions. In addition, fluorine coatings have also been applied to the front and rear lens elements for added protection against fingerprints and smudges. 

Rounded diaphragm of nine rounded diaphragm blades help  a pleasant quality of focus that benefits the utilization of depth of field and selective focusing techniques.

Reconstructed tripod collar can be attached or detached from the lens without having to remove the lens from the camera.
