Built-in image enhancement in the camera

The EOS R1 uses deep learning to upscale images in the camera by up to four times. It uses the same technology for noise reduction, which preserves fine detail and eliminates noise when shooting at high ISO sensitivities.

Built for speed, with a maximum shooting speed of 40 fps and the fastest shutter speed (1/64,000 sec). All of this is made possible by a new 24.2MP back-illuminated stacked sensor that also virtually eliminates rolling shutter distortion. We're also introducing the EOS R5 MARK II, which combines speed and resolution and excels in any genre of photography or video. A 45MP sensor is fast enough to shoot bursts of up to 30fps, plus a variety of video formats, including Light RAW up to 8K at 60p.

Both cameras use the new DIGIC Accelerator processor that works in conjunction with a DIGIC X processor to handle unprecedented levels of data at breakneck speed, giving photographers and filmmakers new creative possibilities.

We are pleased to announce the development of the EOS R1 full-frame mirrorless camera. This flagship camera will use a newly developed DIGIC Accelerator image processor along with the existing DIGIC X and a new sensor, to process large amounts of data at high speed, bringing new advancements for professionals.

The EOS R1 will persistently track subjects in sports scenarios, even when they are momentarily hidden from view, for example when subjects cross paths in team sports. The newly developed Action Priority feature will automatically detect the main subject performing a specific action (such as shooting a ball) and instantly move the AF frame, allowing photographers to capture key moments.

The combination of the new image processing system and deep learning technologies will contribute to improved image quality.

Only available for photos and electronic shutter. If the size of the person on the screen is small, or if part of the subject is hidden or multiple subjects are crowded, the accuracy of the identification may decrease.

 The camera cannot extract frames from RAW movies and recorded movies when [Custom Image: On] is set. In-camera resizing/cropping and in-camera image enhancement are not available for photos extracted from frames. Video recording does not stop when shooting photos. Videos are recorded to card 1 and photos are recorded to card 2 (one card must be inserted into each slot). Settings during movie recording are applied to photos. AF/AE works with the appropriate settings for movie recording. The color tone may differ from that of normal photographs depending on when the photographs are taken.  Although the camera features a dust- and water-resistant structure, this cannot completely prevent dust or water droplets from entering the camera. To ensure proper weather sealing, the supplied shoe cover should be used unless a weather-sealed accessory is inserted into the multi-function shoe.
