In-camera image enhancement

The EOS R1 uses deep learning to scale images up to four times in-camera. It uses the same technology for noise reduction, which preserves fine details and eliminates noise when shooting at high ISO sensitivities.

We are pleased to announce the development of the EOS R1 full-frame mirrorless camera. This flagship camera will use a newly developed DIGIC Accelerator image processor along with the existing DIGIC X and a new sensor to process large amounts of data at high speed, providing new breakthroughs for professionals.

The EOS R1 will persistently track subjects in sports scenarios, even when they are momentarily hidden from view, for example, when subjects cross paths in team sports. The newly developed Action Priority function will automatically detect the main subject performing a specific action (such as shooting a ball) and instantly move the AF frame, allowing photographers to capture key moments.

The combination of the new image processing system and deep learning technologies will contribute to improved image quality.

Only available for photos and electronic shutter. If the size of the person on the screen is small, or if part of the subject is hidden or several subjects are crowded together, the accuracy of identification may decrease.

The camera cannot extract frames from RAW movies and recorded movies when [Custom Image: On] is set. In-camera resizing or cropping and in-camera image enhancement are not available for photographs extracted from frames. Video recording does not stop when shooting still images. Videos are recorded on card 1 and photos are recorded on card 2 (one card must be inserted in each slot). Settings during video recording are applied to still images. AF/AE works with the appropriate settings for video recording. The color tone may differ from that of normal photographs depending on when the pictures are taken. Additional restrictions may apply. Although the camera has a dust- and water-resistant construction, this cannot completely prevent dust or water droplets from entering the camera. To ensure proper sealing against the weather, the supplied hot shoe cover should be used unless a weather-sealed accessory is inserted into the multifunction hot shoe.
