Helping to improve audio quality when shooting video with your digital camera, Canon's DM-E1 directional microphone is an external microphone that offers a variety of directional control, including a dedicated shotgun configuration, as well as switchable 90° and 120° stereo settings. It is compatible with digital cameras that feature a 3.5mm jack and offers a frequency response range of 50Hz to 16kHz. An included windscreen helps reduce peripheral wind or other ambient noise, and a shock mount is incorporated into the design to reduce camera and lens operating noise during recording. It is powered by an included CR2032 lithium coin cell cell, and a power status indicator light allows you to confirm the remaining battery life.

The external microphone offers improved audio quality as well as greater recording control to generate more dynamic video productions.

Three independent pickup configurations are available to suit a variety of shooting needs:

Shotgun is a monaural recording mode that captures a narrow band of sound in front of the camera, making it suitable for dialogue, individual musical instruments, or other specific topics.

The 90° stereo recording mode is suitable for a single subject and adds some audio context to the sides to suit recording small groups of people.

The 120° stereo recording mode offers a wider sound angle, ideal for recording larger groups over wider areas, such as a band on stage or an outdoor party.

This microphone is compatible with select EOS digital cameras that have a dedicated movie recording mode and an external microphone jack.

The included windscreen helps reduce peripheral wind or other ambient sounds for sharper, more focused reproduction. In addition, the microphone has an integrated anti-vibration mounting structure to reduce camera and lens operating noise.

A frequency range of 50 Hz to 16 kHz can accurately capture a wide variety of sounds, including live music, nature sounds, and dialogue.

Instead of using the camera's battery, this microphone has its own built-in power supply to deliver longer continuous recording times. The included CR2032 coin cell lithium battery is easily replaceable, and there is a power check light on the microphone body to check the battery level status. Also, when connected to a camera, the microphone will automatically turn on or off along with the camera's on/off switch.
