Cooke SP3 is an exciting new series of prime lenses based on one of the most influential lenses in film history, the Speed Panchro™. SP3 is an all-new design optimized (optically and mechanically) for full-frame and mirrorless cameras that will allow more creatives to enrich the visual narrative of their stories.

Great cinematographers have always been interpreters of stories. Artists who translate technique into a visual language that speaks to our soul. In an age where anyone can capture moving images, telling emotionally impactful stories requires something different.

Making the human being seem human.

Much of cinematic storytelling is based on interpretation. Cooke SP3 combines resolution and color to convey a character's emotion in a more believable way. The axial sharpness of the SP3 optical design focuses the viewer's attention on the center of the image, creating an experience subconsciously close to human vision.

Sculpting with Depth

With a combination of focus drop and breathing, Cooke SP3 lenses naturally lend themselves to the sense of form and allow cinematographers to create a sense of space and dimension. The SP3's fully spherical design gives the lenses a smooth, round gradient quality in bokeh. When used wide open, the SP3 shows a loss of focus at the edge of the image.

Artisanal increase

Rather than overloading the image with dramatized artifacts, SP3 organically captures specular reflections and haze allowing cinematographers to focus on their creative intent. Specialized cinematic optical coatings ensure control of reflections and color matching throughout the lens set.

Dynamic dimension

The sharpness of the centre of the image is complemented by a slight loss of focus towards the edge of the image, giving the cinematographer additional dimensionality to shape the image. An important image capture effect of the SP3 is that the lenses are sharp on the optical axis, which means they are sharp in the center of the image. This, complemented by a delicate drop towards the edge of the image, mimics how the human eye sees the world.

Dynamic Drop

SP3 shows the classic features of the Cooke Look and is very sharp on the axis, but is designed to decay towards the edge of the image.

8K and beyond

SP3 is capable of achieving the highest levels of resolution in modern digital sensors.

Shared architecture

The focus and iris mechanisms are aligned throughout the game allowing for fast, smooth and precise lens changes while maintaining the focus motor and iris positions.

The SP3 is optimized for FF and combines Cooke Look with a sharp axis and a drop in focus in the field.

Compatibility

The SP3 has standardized focus and iris drive gears of MOD 0.8. Models from 25mm to 75mm have a fixed common front diameter of 64mm; The 100 m model has a front diameter of 82 mm.

External finish

All SP3 lenses are coated with a scratch-resistant finish, providing a durable, wear-resistant surface to cope with the most demanding environmental conditions.

Aperture

All SP3 prime lenses cover Full Frame and Super35 formats and offer full apertures from T2.4-T16.

Focus scales

All SP3 lenses have dual non-linear focus scales in imperial and metric measurements

Color Balance

All SP3 prime lenses are color-balanced and matched, ensuring consistency across the series and are additionally paired with Panchro/i Classic FF.
