Larger sensor, better image

The first XM camera in over a decade, the X-M5 features the same 26.1 MP X-Trans 4 CMOS sensor as its viral cousin, the X100V. At 16 times the size of the average smartphone sensor, the X-Trans 4's superior light-gathering capabilities translate into richer colors, more detail and improved low-light performance. The sensor design features a random pixel array intended to mimic the organic nature of film, producing nuanced colors and tonal transitions while reducing digital artifacts. In addition, the larger APS-C sensor creates a shallower depth of field, allowing for deeper background blur and subject separation.

Optimized audio, 6K video

The X-M5 was designed to address the entire spectrum of contemporary content creation, excelling in both audio and video capture. The camera has three built-in microphones and four sound capture modes (Surround, Front Priority, Rear Priority, and Front and Rear Priority) to optimize sound capture for specific situations. A 3.5 mm microphone jack allows greater control over the soundscape, while new algorithms built into the camera enable both voice enhancement and ambient noise reduction.

The X-M5 is capable of delivering 6.2K wide-open-door video at up to 29.97 fps and can take advantage of every pixel on the 3:2 native aspect ratio sensor to achieve high quality video. The camera combines this high image quality with several video recording-oriented features, most of which are easily accessible in the camera's Vlog mode.

The background blur mode blurs the background to focus on the main subject of the camera.

Product priority mode automatically shifts focus to a product located closer to the camera, ideal for reviews and demonstrations

Portrait Enhancer mode applies skin smoothing algorithms in Weak, Medium and Strong options

The 9:16 Short Movie mode offers a 9:16 cropped vertical recording option in 15, 30 and 60 second options for Internet-ready content directly from the camera.

Video recording is further enhanced with AI-assisted autofocus with eye tracking and subject recognition, two recording modes for color grading, and various video sizes and frame rates, including Full HD slow motion video at 240 fps.

Film simulations and color science

FUJIFILM, known for its color science, has equipped the X-M5 with 20 Film Simulation modes to reproduce the look and feel of several of the company's most famous film types. The camera's realistic results can be interpreted with these film simulations, eight of which are accessible on one of the camera's top dials. The modes can simplify workflows by producing edited material directly from the camera.

In addition to simulating specific film types, a grainy effect mode is also available to replicate the look of old film photographs with an organic texture. Color Chrome and Color Chrome Blue effects are also available to deepen color, tonal response and gradation with higher saturation colors.

Design and construction

The X-M5 is the smallest and lightest camera in the X-series, weighing 12.5 oz without lens and measuring 4.4" wide. In keeping with FUJIFILM's aesthetic and X-series design philosophy, the silver rangefinder-style body comes with a series of top-mounted dials for setting mode, Film Simulation and adjusting settings. The interchangeable lens mount accepts any of the 35+ X-series lenses, with the option to attach other lenses with an appropriate optional adapter.

The camera features a 3" articulating LCD touchscreen that is optimized for automatic video recording. Anticipating the needs of creators, FUJIFILM has moved the location of the connection ports to the right side of the camera, eliminating cable interference with the monitor. The microphone port has also been moved from the side of the camera to the rear to further accommodate content creation accessories.

Built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to share images wirelessly with a mobile device or use the device to control the camera remotely.

Frame.io Camera to Cloud integration allows you to send photos or videos directly to the cloud moments after they are created.

Single SD memory card slot supports up to UHS-I standard

The included NP-W126S battery provides up to approximately 45 minutes of continuous 6K capture or up to 440 images in economy mode.
