Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS EFS USM lens

The Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS EFS USM Lens is a large aperture lens compatible with APS-C format DSLR cameras, and offers a versatile wide-angle short telephoto zoom range. The focal length is equivalent to approximately 27-88mm in 35mm format and its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture is effective in low light conditions throughout the zoom range. A maximum aperture also allows control of depth of field.

This lens incorporates Canon optical image stabilizer technology, which provides up to 3 comprehensive compensation for blurred images caused by camera shake with slow shutter speeds. This allows for sharp images, even in low light. An ultrasonic autofocus motor (USM) provides fast and quiet AF action that is particularly important when shooting video and manual focus correction enables precise manual focusing at all times, even in autofocus mode.

Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens is specially formed lens elements and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and reflections, which can be caused by reflections from digital camera sensors.

A fast maximum, constant aperture of f/2.8 is ideal for low-light shooting, using fast shutter speeds and shallow depth of field control.
Optical Image Stabilization allows up to 3 stops of shutter speed blur compensation to create clearer images taken by hand and in low-light situations.
Ultrasonic Ring Type Autofocus Motor (USM) provides quiet fast auto, precise focusing and predictive tracking.
It features three aspherical lens elements (two types) as well as a UD glass element for reduced aberrations and high image quality at all focal lengths.
Optimized lens coating minimizes reflections and stray lights likely to occur with digital cameras.
Focus AF algorithms and new internals improve AF speed and full-time manual focus enables accurate manual focusing, even in AF mode.
It uses optics designed to make the most of the small image circle and the short refocus on EF-S lenses.
Circular aperture diaphragm produces bright out-of-focus features
