Nano USM

Nano USM is a newly developed lens control system that combines the quiet smoothness of an STM (stepper motor) system ideal for shooting movies, with the speed of the Canon ring type USM (ultrasonic motor) system, perfect for shooting sports and action, while offering a compact size. The EF-S 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM's autofocus speed is up to 2.5x* (wide) and up to 4.3x* faster (telephoto) compared to the EF-S18-135mm F3.5-5.6 IS STM. How the Nano USM works

The Nano USM unit consists of an elastic metal body and a ceramic voltage element. By modifying the frequency and phase of the high frequency voltage applied to the ceramic element, it is possible to control the speed and direction of rotation. In perfect combination, frequency and phase control provide lens focusing movement with an ideal control algorithm for both photos and movies.

Adapter accessory for motorized zoom

The 18-135mm Nano f3.5-5.6 EFS IS USM Canon includes new electrical contacts and a gear under the lens to make it compatible with the new Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1. This makes it easy to use the EF-S 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM's zoom control with the zoom stick or via Wi-Fi when used with compatible EOS cameras.

Image Stabilizer

The Image Stabilizer unit features a new design and achieves an image stabilization effect of 4 shutter speeds, according to CIPA standards. It also offers dynamic IS (only works in movie mode), with effective stabilization for recording videos on the move, for example, when walking. The image stabilization control of the EF-S 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6 IS USM is optimized for corrective optics sensitivity and IS drive characteristics. This unit also includes a function that distinguishes between normal and panoramic shots based on the output signals of the vibration gyroscope, and automatically selects the optimal IS mode. In addition, it controls the setting of the dynamic IS in the video recording mode.
