The EOS R Filter Adapter communicates with the body that is able to recognize the change in format and will adapt by capturing images cropped to 11.6 megapixels offered by EF-S optics.

EOS R Adapter with Filter | EOS R Filter Adapter

Extending the range of compatible lenses, this EF-EOS R Canon Filter Slot Mount Adapter is a unique lens adapter designed to attach any EF or EF-S mount lens to the EOS R mirrorless digital camera. This sophisticated adapter allows compatibility with certain Type A insertion filters and includes a variable ND filter for greater control over exposure settings.
The adapter design expands the ability to use filters with single lenses that cannot accept filters on the front, and also retains the autofocus and image stabilization capability of the mounted lens. It is also dust and water resistant, making it suitable for use in harsh weather conditions.
