New lens perfectly complements the 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary. Together they cover a focal range ranging from wide-angle to moderate telephoto, with a constant aperture of f2.8 and a combined weight of just 920 grams.

This wide-angle zoom features an exceptionally compact design, weighing 450 grams and a length and diameter of 100.6 and 77.2 millimeters, respectively (data from the L-Mount model).

It is definitely a very portable lens for day to day, capable of competing in this section with angular zooms that offer an aperture of F4, and is a particularly attractive proposal for landscape photography, weddings and trips, disciplines in which it is usual to have to carry the equipment for a long time.

The internal zoom shift mechanism is responsible for keeping the length of the barrel constant throughout the focal range, contributing to the great sense of balance that this lens transmits in the hand. Also the center of gravity of the optics hardly varies, so it is a perfect lens to use with a stabilizer.

Optimally arranged, the two large-diameter aspherical lenses and the five FLD glass elements (which have characteristics comparable to those of fluorite) allow for a lightweight and compact body, effectively suppressing lateral and vertical chromatic aberrations that often undermine the quality of ultra-wide optics.

The new zoom also uses the advanced digital correction features of the latest cameras to provide impressive image quality for such a small body.

The constant aperture of f2.8 provides a shallow depth of field for out-of-focus areas, which is especially useful when shooting close-ups. The bokeh is smooth and circular thanks to the nine rounded blades of the diaphragm, so that the background does not become an element of distraction in relation to the subject in focus.

SIGMA has been used thoroughly in this lens to avoid the presence of stray lights and flashes, phenomena that are caused by reflections inside the barrel of the optics. High build quality and ergonomics

This new wide-angle zoom includes a front filter thread, allowing it to use polarizing and neutral density filters without complications. This is especially useful in landscape photography and for video recording.

Using a stepper AF motor results in fast and quiet focusing. For this reason the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is an ideal lens for taking pictures and videos in quiet environments.

Among the lightweight materials specially selected for the construction of this optic is TSC (thermally stable composite), a polycarbonate with a thermal shrinkage rate similar to that of aluminum. This allows the SIGMA 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary performs optimally even in environments with extreme temperature changes, as metal and plastic parts contract and expand at a similar rate.
