4K 1/3-type 3CMOS sensor

The PXW-Z190 is the world's first professional camcorder with a 4K 1/3-type (QFHD) sensor. Separate image sensors independently capture red, blue and green lights within the Exmor RTM system with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 at a maximum of 60 fps. Even if you're creating HD footage, 10-bit 4:2:2 recordings will capture the level of detail and texture of images that HD sensors simply can't appreciate.

Professional lens with 25x zoom, three independent rings and long focal length

The PXW-Z190 is equipped with a professional 25x zoom lens capable of zooming from 28.8 to 720mm (35mm equivalent). The 1/3" lens features three independent control rings, which allow manual control of focus, zoom and iris, allowing for better and faster adjustment.

The image can be enlarged in HD mode to the equivalent of up to 50x zoom, while maintaining Full HD resolution thanks to a digital extender.

Advanced Face Recognition AF

The PXW-Z190 features the new AF with facial recognition. It allows you to choose between face-priority autofocus and face-only autofocus. You just have to keep the person in the frame, and no matter how much you move around to find a better angle, you can trust the PXW-Z190 to keep your subject in sharp focus.

Supports dual HDR/SDR production*

When recording HDR content, the Z190's electronic viewfinder easily switches between HDR and SDR emulation modes. In addition, if the image brightness is adjusted in SDR emulation, the SDR gain in dB is recorded in the metadata so that it can be used in post-production of SDR content. Together, these changes make it easier to record in HDR, while supporting accelerated delivery of SDR content.

Integrated Electronic Variable Neutral Density Filters

The revolutionary integration of electronic variable ND filters into the body of a camcorder allows for agile and fast recording. Going from shady interiors to very bright exteriors will no longer be a problem with the PXW-Z190. Unlike conventional optical ND filters, the PXW-Z190's electronic ND filter can be linearly controlled from ND 1/4 to ND 1/128 and set to fully automatic mode. You can even adjust the depth of field manually with the iris lens ring, while using the PXW-Z190 to maintain a constant exposure without needing to change the gain or shutter speed.

Out-of-the-box HDR workflow

Record, edit, and view HDR content with HLG without the need for additional color grading. Premium content services are moving to HDR and the PXW-Z190 is ready with Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording, which facilitates file-based workflows while delivering HDR image quality. This simple workflow allows you to shoot, edit, and view HDR content in HLG, without spending a lot of time on post-production work and additional color grading.

Live streaming instantly connects you with your audience, wherever you are. From breaking news and live events to interviews and seminars, capture high-quality footage and share it in real-time on leading online video platforms such as YouTube Live, Facebook Live, or Mudu.tv. Set up your own streaming channel from a smartphone or tablet, connect via Wi-Fi, and you're good to go! Dual Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe

The Multi-Interface Shoe provides signal connections and combined on/off to compatible SONY accessories. Front and rear connectors maximize operational flexibility. For example, you can connect and control SONY wireless microphone systems such as the UWP-D11 or UWP-D12 and the HVL-LBPC light at the same time.* Wireless connection eliminates the risk of accidental disconnection.

4-channel audio with two XLR inputs

The PXW-Z190 offers four-channel audio recording with two independent volume dials that allow you to precisely control external audio inputs, including a microphone connected via a multi-interface shoe.

Two SD slots

The camcorder is equipped with two SD memory card slots, so you can record in simultaneous recording, relay, or backup modes. Simultaneous mode allows simultaneous recording to two memory cards, ideal for archiving purposes. Relay mode automatically switches recording from the first to the second memory card when the first memory card fills up to extend the recording time. In backup mode, users can set the PXW-Z190's two start/stop buttons, one on the grip and one on the camera body, to independently start and stop recording to different memory cards while recording in simultaneous mode.*

Flexible Network Workflows

The PXW-Z190 comes with 5GHz* and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi as standard. Just turn it on and connect to your favorite network. Install the free "Content Browser Mobile"** app on your smartphone to remotely operate the camera and control iris, zoom, focus white balance and other functions in the palm of your hand. It also offers one-touch authentication with smartphones that feature NFC connectivity.

In addition, the Z190 can be easily upgraded to offer all of the following features with the optional CBKZ-SLNW1.

High-quality QoS transmission to a network RX station (optional)

Transmitting MPEG TS UDP to a common peripheral receiver

The PXW-Z190 offers flexibility in production thanks to support for different production formats.

XAVC Long GOP recording in QFHD and Full HD

XAVC technology is based on the H.264 standard, which provides exceptionally robust and efficient compression technology. XAVC Long GOP applies multi-frame compression and reduces file sizes to streamline ingest and edit processes, while saving on recording media. In HD recording, the XAVC codec adopts 10-bit sampling for high-definition recording with rich tonal expression.

MPEG HD422 and MPEG HD* emission standards

The high-quality MPEG HD422 50 Mbps recording is fully compliant with the EBU's latest recommendations for broadcasting long-form content and is widely accepted by broadcasters and production companies. This recording capability makes the PXW-Z190 the perfect choice for a wide variety of applications, including news and documentary production.
