Both a coating sublength (SWC) and an Air Sphere Coating (ASC) have been applied to lens elements to reduce backlight and ghosting for light transmission while maintaining high contrast in harsh lighting conditions.

The CANON 16-35mm f2.8 III USM EF L lens incorporates an ultrasonic motor (USM), along with an internal focusing system, high-speed CPU, and optimized AF algorithms, are employed to provide fast, accurate and almost silent autofocus performance, spectacular AF results and can also use manual focus at all times for fine adjustment of the focus position when working in AF mode. /unique
