A weather-resistant zoom lens with a constant aperture of F2.8 at focal lengths equivalent to 24mm wide-angle up to 84mm in medium telephoto, the XF16-55mm delivers extraordinarily sharp images even with wide apertures across the zoom range!

The"FUJINON XF16-55 mm F2.8 R LM WR"is a reference "standard XF zoom lens" with a focal length equivalent to 24 mm – 84 mm (in the equivalent of the 35 mm format), and a constant aperture of F2.8 throughout the range. The advanced optical design controls various forms of aberration for edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire zoom range. Employing the newly developed Coating Technology Nano-GI* (Gradient Index) effectively inhibits ghosting and flare, producing clear images. It is a comfortable standard zoom lens that covers a wide variety of shooting scenes, from the wide angle equivalent to 24 mm suitable for landscape photography, to the medium telephoto lens equivalent to 84 mm, ideal for portraits.

The XF16-55mm lens is powered by a linear motor, which achieves comfortable shooting with fast and quiet autofocus. It has a dust- and weather-resistant finish that can operate in temperatures as low as -10°C and can be attached to the high-quality mirrorless camera "FUJIFILM X-T1" to take advantage of the fully weather-resistant system.

* Technology that forms a very small sized irregular surface structure on the lens to reduce reflections from its surface

1.Main features

(1) Optically designed for maximum image quality with a standard reference zoom lens

  • To achieve best-in-class image quality, the standard zoom lens with a constant aperture of F2.8 consists of 17 elements in 12 groups. This includes three elements of aspherical lenses to control distortion and spherical aberration, and three elements of ED glass lenses that reduce lateral chromatic aberration (wide angle) and axial chromatic aberration (telephoto), achieving edge-to-edge sharpness throughout the zoom range.
  • Applying Fujifilm's unique HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating) coating to all lens surfaces controls ghosting and flare for clear, crisp results. In addition, using the newly developed Nano-GI coating technology, which alters the refractive index between glass and air, ghosting and flare are effectively reduced with diagonally hitting light.
  • Nine rounded aperture blades create a smooth, circular "bokeh." The suppression of spherical aberration at all times contributes to producing a beautiful "bokeh" both in the foreground and in the background.
  • By combining this lens with an X-series camera body** with Lens Modulation Optimizer*** (LMO) technology, lens performance has been further improved. LMO corrects diffraction*4 to produce sharp images from edge to edge and create a realistic three-dimensional effect even at small apertures.

** Compatible with "FUJIFILM X-T1", "FUJIFILM X-T1GS" and "FUJIFILM X-E2" cameras as of January 2015.

Fujifilm's proprietary image processing feature that corrects optical diffraction effects, and is based on the optical performance of each lens.

*4 Phenomenon that occurs when shooting with a small aperture, when images that should initially be sharp are blurred.

(2) High-speed silent autofocus thanks to linear motor

  • An indoor focusing system*5 is used for high-speed AF. Thanks to the reduction of the weight of the focus lens and the mounting of the double linear motor, a silent and high-speed AF can be achieved. The faster AF speed of 0.06 seconds brings convenience to photo shoots by combining this lens with an X-series camera body** that offers phase detection AF. In combination with the almost silent operation of the shutter, photos can be taken in silent environments without anyone noticing.
  • As af works with an image sensor signal, it is possible to focus with extremely high accuracy.

*5 Method for moving small lenses in the center and back sections of the lens, without moving the large lenses that make up the front of the lens.

(3) Weather and dust resistant and operates at temperatures down to -10 °C

  • With the hermetic seal in 14 points, the lens is weather resistant, dust resistant and works at low temperatures down to -10 °C, making it the perfect companion for X-T1, which has the same levels of protection.

(4) High-quality construction and comfortable operation

  • The aperture and focus rings are made of metal, and metal is also used on the outside of the lens body to provide a high-quality finish. Thanks to the accumulated experience and our extensive technological knowledge in other professional areas where high-end lenses are used, such as TV and CinemaScope broadcasts, the texture and torque of the rings make shooting more comfortable even in the delicate manual focus. The lens mount is made of bronze to improve its solidity.
  • Combined with a camera body, the lens accounts for approximately 60% of the weight of a full-size system*6, greatly reducing the burden on the photographer and making it astonishingly easy to use.
  • The AF+MF function activates uniform manual focus. After pressing the shutter to automatically focus on the subject, precise adjustments can be made using the manual focus ring.*7

*6 Fujifilm research.

*7 A function that allows uniform manual focus by rotating the focus ring and at the same time pressing the shutter halfway during AF lock. To use this feature, the firmware update for the camera body is required.

(Applicable on models: X-Pro1/X-E1/X-E2/X-T1/X-T1GS)
