Stable GN46 output for various use cases

The HVL-F46RM, designed by SONY, is capable of communicating with camera bodies α to deliver uniform GN46 light output in professional environments. In addition, it supports focal lengths from 24 mm (15 mm with the panoramic panel) to 105 mm.

High-speed continuous shooting with flash

On compatible cameras, the HVL-F46RM continuously delivers flash up to a maximum of 60 frames in fast bursts of 10 fps. In addition, its precise level of synchronization allows for stable continuous capture.

Synchronization speed up to 1/400 s with compatible cameras

The HVL-F46RM offers a flash synchronization speed of 1/400 s with compatible cameras, allowing you to downplay the background while enhancing a main subject, moving subjects to illuminated backgrounds and other elements.

P-TTL flash control adapts to changing light

With compatible cameras, high-speed camera control sequencing uses pre-flash measurement to control each flash drive during continuous bursts even when following moving subjects in changing light.

Reduced flash activation time

When using the HVL-F46RM with compatible cameras, the response time between shutter button press and flash output is significantly reduced*6, allowing you to capture fleeting moments with complete accuracy.

Flash control linked to face detection

On compatible cameras, the white balance is automatically adjusted to reproduce faces in a natural color. The HVL-F46RM works with face detection from compatible cameras to properly illuminate the subject even in groups.

Automatic white balance with a unique level of accuracy

Thanks to the design of SONY, this advanced flash unit transfers color temperature data to the camera to precisely adjust the white balance and reproduce natural colors in any situation.

High-speed, slow and back-curtain synchronization

High-speed sync works with all shutter speeds and can be used with the aperture wide open to get portraits with a nice background bokeh effect. Slow sync and back curtain sync can also be selected.

Selectable flash distribution adjustment types

Three types of flash distribution adjustment are included: standard (STD), GN priority (CENTER), and wide-angle priority (EVEN).

Optimized light output according to certain parameters

The illumination angle automatically adjusts to the focal length of the lens when the range is superior to 24-105 mm. Light distribution is also optimally adjusted with full-frame or APS-C formats.

Continuous flash with fast recharge times

Its advanced design and components ensure fast reloading times and continuous firing for extended periods of time. A set of four batteries can power more than 320 flashes with recharge times of 2 s.

Effective overheating control for long sessions

Heat-resistant materials and optimized flash control algorithm ensure greater resistance to overheating and longer continuous capture time. The HVL-F46RM uses the same algorithm as the HVL-F60RM2, making it 1.7 times more resistant to overheating than the HVL-F45RM and allowing uninterrupted shooting.

Metal shoe base with sturdy side frame

A metal shoe base with a sturdy side frame improves the durability and strength of the Multi Interface Shoe and its electrical contact points.

Improved dust and moisture resistance

Its dust- and moisture-resistant design ensures high outdoor reliability. In addition, the sealing of the shoe provides improved strength with some bodies.

Flexible refraction angle adjustment

This function allows you to quickly tilt the flash head 180 degrees left or right, 150 degrees up or 8 degrees down to easily adjust the angle of refraction to any subject or environment.

Full control from compatible cameras

Parameters such as compensation or light ratio can be controlled directly from a compatible camera. In addition, it is possible to assign a custom button to display the parameter screen in the viewer and configure them.

Custom button and dot matrix display

Thanks to its display tab format, similar to that of the camera, it offers easy and intuitive operation. In addition, the Quick Navi screen allows you to view status information and access parameters with various customizable controls.

Improved rear Quick Navi display

When you press the Fn button, the selected flash mode and other parameters are displayed on the screen, allowing you to easily configure the settings regardless of the situation. Unlike the previous model, which only showed the wireless connection and memory recovery icons disabled when pressing the Fn button, the HVL-F46RM always displays these parameters on the screen.

Versatile wireless radio communication

Stable wireless communication by radio up to 30 m. Reliable and interference-free communication even between reflectors and obstacles. Slow sync, back curtain sync, and multiple flash are supported.

Wireless radio control of up to 15 flash drives

Control up to 15 flash drives or receivers in 5 groups. The HVL-F46RM is capable of communicating with flash drives without wireless radio communication via the optional FA-WRC1M controller or the FA-WRR1 receiver.

Connection to computer via multi/micro USB

The HVL-F46RM has a multi/micro USB terminal that allows you to connect it to a computer to install software updates.
