Stable, fast, versatile and compact, the SONY Alpha a6400 is an APS-C format mirrorless camera that adopts many of the functions normally reserved for your frame line. This includes 0.02-second autofocus acquisition, real-time AF capabilities and real-time tracking, high-speed shooting up to 11fps and silent shooting up to 8fps, both with AF/AE tracking, and enhanced BIONZ X image processing. motor, a fully tilting 180° LCD touch screen, 4K UHD movie recording with full pixel reading and no pixel clustering, internal recording for time-lapse videos and more.

The a6400 is ideal for photo and video creators, from professionals to vloggers. Rotating around a 24.2MP Exmor CMOS sensor and a BIONZ X image processor, clean image quality is provided with a wide sensitivity range of 100 to 102,400 ISO, along with accelerated read speeds for internal 4K30 and Full HD 1080p120 video recordings with full pixel reading. The processor further benefits videographers with the inclusion of an S&Q (Slow & Quick) Motion setting that allows you to capture Full HD video at a variety of frame rates from 1-120 fps, plus HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), which supports HDR workflows and both S-Log2 and S-Log3 for color grading flexibility. Still image shooters also benefit from processing speed, which allows continuous shooting at 11fps for up to 116 JPEGs or 46 raw images in one burst, as well as 14-bit raw file output. The sensor-processor combination also features a wide coverage of 425 phase detection points and 425 contrast detection points for fast and accurate focusing. This focusing system also enables real-time Eye AF, which provides greater accuracy, speed, and Eye AF tracking performance, so that the subject's eyes are automatically detected. In addition, real-time tracking uses AI-based object recognition and processes color, subject distance (depth), and pattern (brightness) as spatial information to ensure all subjects can be accurately captured. The a6400 is a fast and accurate imaging tool for multimedia capture, increasingly versatile and full-featured in both photography and video.

Complementing the imaging assets, the a6400 sports a robust magnesium alloy body and anti-dust functionality that protects the optical filter. The compact profile incorporates a high-resolution Tru-Finder 2.36m-dot XGA OLED electronic viewfinder for bright, crisp viewing at eye level, and this EVF features a 120fps display mode for smooth tracking of fast-moving subjects. Also available is a 3.0" 921.6k dot rear touchscreen TFT LCD LCD monitor and tilts 180° up and 74° down to benefit from shots from high and low working angles. The touchscreen design also allows intuitive touch control to focus. In addition, for wireless remote control of the camera, or simply for sharing images online, the built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows connection with a mobile device for intuitive wireless control.

  • Capture decisive moments

The a6400's autofocus system inherits many technologies from SONY's line of full-frame cameras, including the a9, a7R III and a7 III models. The a6400 features 425 phase detection AF points and 425 contrast detection AF points that are densely placed throughout the image area, covering approximately 84% of the image area. This high-speed, high-performance tracking AF system is combined with a BIONZ X image processing engine that, together, allows the camera to acquire focus in as little as 0.02 seconds and maintain subject lock effectively, ensuring that even the fastest moving subjects can be easily captured.

The a6400 introduces the advanced "Real-time Eye AF", the latest version of SONY's Eye AF technology. This capability employs AI-based object recognition to detect and process eye data in real time, improving the accuracy, speed, and tracking performance of Eye AF. In all autofocus modes, the camera now automatically detects the subject's eyes and activates Eye AF with a medium press of the shutter release button, and when in AF-C or AF-A mode, the preferred eye (left or right) of your subject can be selected as the focus point. Options include Auto/Right Eye/Left Eye, and the Change Right/Left Eye feature can also be assigned to a custom feature. This technology frees the photographer to focus solely on the composition with confidence that the focus will be focused on the subject's eye. Eye AF support for animals will be added in the summer of 2019 via a system software update.

Also debuting on the A6400 is SONY's "Real-Time Tracking." This mode uses the SONY algorithm that includes artificial intelligence (AI)-based object recognition and processes color, subject distance (depth), and pattern (brightness) as spatial information to ensure that all subjects can be accurately captured. In addition, when photographing or videotaping humans or animals, information about the position of the face and eyes is recognized by AI and the subject's eye is monitored in real time with high tracking accuracy. This can be activated with a simple press of the shutter button, or it can be assigned to a custom function

In terms of overall shooting speeds, the camera can shoot up to 11fps with full AF/AE tracking while using the mechanical shutter, and up to 8fps with full AF/AE tracking while shooting silently. You can shoot at each of these speeds up to 116 standard JPEG frames/46 uncompressed frames, which greatly increases the chances of capturing the moment.

  • Advances in image quality

the Sony a6400 model is equipped with a 24.2MP APS-C image sensor that is combined with an updated BIONZ X processor to deliver better image quality and color reproduction in all types of shooting conditions. Standard ISO ranges vary up to ISO 32,000 for still images and films, and can be expanded up to ISO 102,400 for still images, with good noise reduction at medium and high sensitivities.

The camera also inherits many of the image processing algorithms from SONY's full-frame cameras, which suppress noise while preserving resolution and improving texture rendering.

  • 4K movie recording with fast hybrid autofocus

The versatile A6400 is a solid video camera, offering internal 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) movie recording with full pixel reading and no pixel clustering to collect about 2.4x the amount of data required for 4K movies, and then over-sample it to produce high-quality 4K images with detail and depth. Focus during film shooting is fast and stable thanks to updated Fast Hybrid AF technology, which keeps the subject in constant and even focus, even if an object crosses in front of the camera. This advanced AF touch focus functionality makes it a suitable camera option for many vloggers and video creators who are creating and uploading online content regularly.

For the creation of time-lapse movies, the camera features built-in interval recording that can be set anywhere between 1 and 60 seconds, with a total number of shots from 1 to 9999. The AE tracking sensitivity can be set to "High", "Medium", "or "Low" during interval shooting, allowing to reduce changes in exposure during the shooting interval.

In addition, for the first time on a SONY APS-C mirrorless camera, this model includes an HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) image profile, which supports an instant HDR workflow, allowing HDR (HLG) compatible TVs to play beautifully –4K HDR images of life. In addition, both the S-Log2 and S-Log3 are available for greater color grading flexibility, as well as Zebra functionality, gamma screen assist, and proxy recording. The camera can also record Full HD at 120fps at up to 100Mb/s, allowing you to review the images and eventually edit them into 4x or 5x slow-motion video files in Full HD resolution with AF tracking.

  • Improved construction for greater versatility

This camera is designed to offer a high level of functionality and customization to maximize shooting freedom. The a6400 features a fully rotating 180°3.0" LCD display with 921,600 points of resolution that allows for simple and effective framing of selfie-style shots for both still image and video capture. Using this capability, vloggers will be able to check and monitor the composition throughout the entire creative process. The LCD screen is also equipped with touch functionality, with options for Touch Pad, Touch Focus, Touch Shutter and Touch Tracking, which quickly activates "Real-time Tracking" via the touch screen.

The camera features a high-quality Tru-Finder XGA OLED viewfinder, extensive customization with 89 functions that can be assigned to 8 custom keys, My Dial and My Menu functionality, better overall menu functionality, a help screen for menus, star rating for images, and many other features that allow for a seamless shooting experience. It is also built with a sturdy magnesium alloy design and has a durable shutter with a capacity of about 200,000 cycles. It is also capable of seamlessly transferring files to a smartphone or tablet when connected to the new Imaging Edge Mobile app.
