12-40mm lens provides an equivalent field in 35mm of 24-80mm view, spanning wide-angle to portrait perspectives of length.

Maximum aperture of constant f/2.8 allows for constant low-light performance and selective focus control over the entire zoom range.

High-speed AF linear motor system, supported by MSC (Compatible Film and Still Image), provides fast, smooth and quiet access to focus performance.

Manual permissions clutch efficient focus and intuitive switching between automatic and manual control focus.

The construction of the aspherical lens integrates an ED (extra low dispersion) element, two aspherical elements, one DSA (Dual Super Aspherical) element, two extra low dispersion elements, one high definition element, and two HR (high refractive index) elements in its design to minimize aberrations, distortion and chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range while contributing to the sharpness of the overall image, clarity and faithfulness.

Seven-blade circular diaphragm works to produce an out-of-focus quality aesthetic that adapts well to the shallow depth of field images.

Dust, by freezing, and drip-proof design ensure the performance of the lens "in the inclement weather and harsh conditions.
