6K full-frame "Exmor R" sensor for stunning image quality

The back-illuminated 6K full-frame CMOS sensor also uses SONY 's Exmor R technology to improve sensitivity and reduce noise. When recording in DCI 4K* and Ultra HD, the ability to oversample and capture in 6K, coupled with powerful image processing, allows you to capture finer details and textures than you can see with a traditional 4K sensor, as well as reduce noise.

Compared to a 4K Super 35mm sensor, the FX9's 6K sensor has more than twice the surface area, providing a wider angle of view and making it easier to get a shallow depth of field. In addition, it allows you to shoot with Super 35mm lenses without any problems and capture 4K images in Super 35mm with all the advantages of this advanced image sensor.

* DCI 4K (4096 x 2160 17:9 recording) requires firmware version 2.0 or superior .

A superb dynamic range of over 15 stops for limitless expression

The FX9 offers an exceptional dynamic range of more than 15 stops, allowing unprecedented creative freedom in color grading and post-production tasks. Camera operators can concentrate on framing shots and rely on the FX9 to capture every nuance and detail through internal 4K 4:2:2 10-bit recording or built-in external 16-bit RAW recording. *In terms of grading, color editors will be able to enjoy a level of color and detail beyond the camera operator's usual viewing capabilities to create a final image that accurately portrays the ambience of the scene.

*RAW recording requires firmware version 2.0 or superior , XDCA-FX9 extension unit,  and an external recorder.

Dual base ISO for stunning images in any light

Digital image sensors work best at their base ISO, as no unnecessary gain (voltage) is added to the sensors' output. While a traditional camera features a unique base ISO carefully chosen to provide the optimal settings for a wide range of shooting scenarios, the FX9's dual ISO function offers much greater flexibility. Its low ISO base sensitivity of 800* is similar to that of the vast majority of digital cinema cameras and offers an excellent balance between dynamic range and sensitivity in the most common productions. Thanks to its high base ISO of 4000* secondary, the FX9 excels in low-light environments without the need to add additional gain. Low-light scenes can be shot using a high base and an ISO value of 4000 with image quality almost identical to that offered by a low base and an ISO value of 800. Combining the dual base ISO with the camera's variable ND electronic filter provides excellent creative control in almost any shooting environment, with unprecedented responsiveness to changing lighting conditions.

*ISO 800 and ISO 4000 sensitivities are used in S-Log3 and Cine EI modes.

Cinematic color technology thanks to S-Cinetone™

The S-Cinetone functionality, included in the FX9 model, has been specifically designed to meet the needs of today's content creators through vivid mid-range colors, mesmerizing facial tones, and a softer-toned look, all developed with the same expertise offered by SONY's world-leading VENICE digital cinema camera. S-Cinetone delivers vibrant, intense content right out of the box, with subjects that stand out, while retaining a high level of latitude for post-production adjustments thanks to the high-performance full-frame image sensor.

Speed up your workflow with 3D user LUTs and HLG*

User-created 3D LUTs make it easy to customize the look of the FX9 to your preference. It is possible to import the LUT files from an SD card and store up to 16 files in the FX9's internal memory, as well as switch between them as needed. This is especially useful for recording in S-Log3, allowing you to preview the custom look you create in-camera.

The FX9 can record in HDR using S-Log3 or Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG).

The S-Log3 standard is designed for the most demanding applications, capturing the maximum dynamic range of sensors and providing unique creative freedom for color grading.

The HLG* format produces content quickly without additional color gradations, making it an ideal choice for everyday recording, viewing, and editing workflows.

*Firmware version 2.0 or superior required

Supports dual HDR/SDR production*

When recording HDR content, the FX9's electronic viewfinder easily switches between HDR and SDR emulation modes. In addition, if the image brightness is adjusted in SDR emulation, the SDR gain in dB is recorded in the metadata so that it can be used in post-production of SDR content. Together, these changes make it easier to record in HDR, while supporting accelerated delivery of SDR content.

*Requires firmware V3.0 or superior.

Selectable frame rates for Full Frame, Super 35 and Super 16

Choose your desired frame rate between 1 and 180 fps* for incredible time-lapse and slow-motion footage. The FX9 creates an immersive image with a wide-angle look and a shallower depth of field thanks to the combination of its full-frame sensor with fast motion and slow motion. Grab the audience's attention with this creative new look. The FX9 also offers quality priority setting** that maximizes Full HD picture quality through 6K full-frame or 4K Super 35 scan modes with advanced oversampling technology. Thanks to firmware version 3, FX9 also supports Super 16*** scan mode and allows control of the B4 lens (requires the optional LA-EB1 and XDCA-FX9 for lens DC power) with ALAC**** (Automatic Lens Aberration Compensation). The image scan area can be changed with the assignable button, which works like a digital extender.

The 2K Super 35 Picture Scan mode prioritizes frame rates, which could reduce image quality depending on the recording environment. In such a case, it is recommended to use the following settings.

EI Cinema Mode: Lower the EI gain level and raise the exposure level instead.

Custom Mode/SDR: Choose the Original (S-Cinetone) or STD (STD1 to 6) gamma category setting

*Up to 120 fps with version 1.0. Full HD 180fps technology requires firmware version 2.0 or superior .

**In Full Frame Scan Mode: Selectable between 1 and 30 fps./In Super 35 Scan Mode: Selectable between 1 and 60 fps. It is recommended to use the quality priority setting if the desired frame rate is available.

Requires version 3 or superior; AF performance in S16 2K mode is not the same as in other picture modes.

The target must be compatible with the ALAC feature.

Features of the 28-135mm f4 G OSS FE PZ lens

The 28-135mm f4 G OSS FE PZ SONY Lens, designed to meet 4K production needs, the 28-135mm SONY FE PZ f/4G OSS lens is a powerful zoom lens that covers wide-angle to telephoto perspectives while adding many features to your full-frame, APS-C, or camcorder or even E-mount camera photography system. The lens features a motorized zoom control with variable speed and the ability to reverse the direction of zoom rotation. Power zoom function is an SSM (Supersonic Wave Motor) unit that allows for precision and quiet operation. Focusing noise is also minimized through the weight reduction of the focus element group and the use of a linear motor. Iris function is also designed to be smooth and quiet for the demands of cinematography.

Angle of view variations while centering (breathing) and axial shift while have been reduced, while five aspherical elements and three ED elements work with advanced multi-coating technology to minimize distortion and chromatic aberrations while contributing to sharper overall images with higher contrast and zoom clarity.

Independent zoom, focus and iris (aperture) control rings are provided for and focus mode can be switched from auto to manual by sliding the focus ring forward so that control is maintained at all times. The three control rings have been designed to provide the right amount of pairs for comfortable, responsive handling and the tone of the scalloped on the rings has been designed for comfortable, slip-free control.

A constant maximum aperture of f/4 delivers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and is especially beneficial when working at higher zoom magnifications in low-light conditions. Also benefiting from working in low light or in the long end of the zoom range is SteadyShot optical image stabilization, which works to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops of shutter speed.

Developed 8-speed zoom provides a focal range of 28-135mm, covering wide-angle to telephoto perspectives

Motorized zoom designed for film productions and full-frame cameras
