The new family of GITZO center ball joints incorporates revolutionary features, with innovations that will be appreciated by all photographers. The surfaces of the balls are coated with tungsten disulfide (WS2), which is one of the softest materials known to science. Tungsten disulfide possesses extremely low friction, so it needs an extremely efficient locking mechanism (patent pending), and the use of high-hardness metal components under and around the ball.
