With its focal length of 100-400mm, the Vario-Elmar-SL is extremely versatile. Especially for photographing and filming animals, nature, sports and action, it allows you to get close to distant subjects, to obtain photographs with the unmistakable LEICA appearance and exceptional image quality. Optical Image Stabilizer and precise autofocus capture motion with sharp contrast. With its compact design and flexible handling, the telephoto zoom lens allows you to react quickly at any time. And thanks to the L-mount bayonet, it doesn't just work in combination with SL cameras.

Construction Details

The optical design of the Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 f/5-6.3 includes 22 lenses in 16 groups. The two outer lenses have an Aqua-Dura® coating that repels water and dirt.

The detachable tripod base compatible with ARCA-SWISS is extremely practical and comfortable. It can be inserted directly into a suitable mounting system without the need for a quick release extractor, always ensuring a solid grip when using a tripod. The lockable tripod clamp allows the lens to be fixed seamlessly at any angle, but can be felt when locked every 90 degrees to allow quick switches between portrait and landscape formats.

Get even closer with the 1.4x Extender L LEICA

If the focal length of 400mm is not enough, the optional 1.4x LEICA Extender L can multiply its reach by 1.4x, reaching up to 560mm. With its compact dimensions, it fits in any bag and, whenever needed, forms a powerful unit with the Vario-Elmar-SL 100-400 f/5-6.3 LEICA . Once the extender and lens are connected, the camera recognizes the enlarged focal length and aperture and automatically writes them to the image data.
